Fitting my 440 into my 68 Dart (6 cylinder K frame) issues - 10/07/15 05:21 AM

I am having issues fitting my 440 and 727 into my 1968 Dodge Dart.

This is what my combo is:
Original 6 cylinder K Member
Transdapt mounts (BB to 6 cylinder k-frame)
440 with Milodon oil Pan and an external oil line
727
TTI Headers
Mini starter
Manual steering box

It appears that the motor needs to come forward after I notch not only the approximate 1" section for the oil pump, but also a large section out of the passengers side area of the k-member to clear the front passenger side of the oil pan.

But even if I do the above, it appears that one of the drivers side header tubes might prevent the 440 from going forward because the manual steering box is in the way.

Has anyone run into this issue?

Thanks!

Sell the mounts, remove s6 stands all the way, rebox stand where steering box is, use motor plate from AndyF. And be done with it. The TTIs are over priced PITAs but they work.

I don't want to run a motor plate because it will be a nightmare with the alternator and pulleys etx. I refuse to run a garbage chevy setup.

The crank and a small spacer behind the alt Brkt is the only ones you will need, everything locates off the pump housing, all will move forward with it.

I've used elephant ears on many BB into A body conversions, I have the water pump housing milled down the thickness of the ears and use all stock parts thumbs scope We did cut all the stock 6 cylinder motor mounts off of those K members to help lighten them and we used Hooker fenderwell headers also to make it easy to change the spark plugs and starters thumbs IHTHS We would use a V8 tranny cross member and mount and bolt the tranny to it and position the tabs for the elphant ears on the front sub frame so everything fit and cleared good and then zap them down thumbs

The last one I did I used the elephant ears and made some simple angle brackets on a poly insulator to knock down the vibration, worked like a charm and more room under the motor to get at things.

Another advantage is with the ears you can set the motor further back (to help weight distribution) as compared to K member mounts.

Here's a PDF of the bracket details...note the Date on the drawings, lol

He could also just mill the thickness of the motor plate, and the extra gasket, off the waterpump housing and then he would not need to use any spacers .

Old pic of the 451 low deck stoker (early 90's) ran 6.90's in the 1/8th with self ported 452 castings.

How's the fit with the CPPA /6 mounts paired with the CPPA headers?

Sounds like the mounts are off a little. Set the engine down in the car, with headers on, leave mounts loose. I use a block of wood under pan setting on a floor jack. Wiggle engine around till nothing hits then see how far the mounts are off. Could fit close since they are loose, might have to shim or space them back or forward. Evan stock stuff I leave mounts loose till engine installed.

Are the mounts bolted to the wrong side of the block ears?

Same issues I had and I got tired of fighting it.
Like Cab said Either elephant ears or like I did I used the Andy F plate and fenderwell headers. Best thing was it located the engine in the right place, Gave me room for my external oiling, No fighting the starter or plugs. Steering east to work on. Pulleys are not a big deal and you can run a Denso or stock type alternator with Andy's kit. Also ties the front together.Mine is race only so I took out the inner fenders. twocents

we put a 383 in a 69 /6 valiant & used those swap mts that tell you to drill a hole in the kmember bracket (just the one on the dr side iirc/been 10 yrs) & it fit perfect. Been racking my brain to remember what company the swap mts were & no luck yet but I'm sure it is one of the companies that have already been mentioned in this thread. Good luck with it
