96 Dakota RPM limiter - 08/22/15 06:57 AM

Anyway to bypass the factory setting,
Or just go with a FAST or HOLLEY, controller it will be boosted in the future.

contact Ryan Hogan who does SCT tuning on a lot of Dodge trucks with Magnum motors. good news, you're playing with a 1996 which is OBD-II and can use SCT.

SCT is the easiest way to raise your rev limiter, speed limiter, change your shift points, idle speed, and once you start feeding the truck boost, you can change your timing and air fuel ratios as well.

Wish it was a 96, this one is a 95 my last Dakota was a 96 got them mixed up,
This has the SBEC type controller, Just need 1300 more RPM out of it,
Also I'm putting in 727 w/trans brake taking out the 5spd, what flex plate do I run with the 727? I know bellhousing needs notched out for the crank sensor.

Have to use a magnum V8 flex plate and the balance will depend on if you have internal or external balance and if the external balance weight is on your converter or not.

I don't know any trick to raise the RPM limit on the old computer short of switching to the new one and programing it. 96 I think is still the old computer with the new programing, a lone orphan deal.

Probably not much help now but I just add a bunch more cubes to keep from raising the limiter.

About the bolt holes I don't know. However, Mag motors used neutral balanced torque converters and the 5.9 had the imbalance built into the flexplate. The 5.2 was neutral balance.

So the flexplate has to match the engine, either 5.2 or 5.9, and the torque converter can be neutral balanced for either.

Contact Ryan anyway. A computer and wire harness, and that 95 will forget it's a 95 and thinking was a 96 since the day it left the factory. AND it'll accept SCT
