What the world needs now is a 340 Race block that can actually be bolted together without major machine work.... There are enough heads that make more power than the blocks can stand, right now.

It's disappointing, but I can't say I am surprised. If everything is outsourced (Patterns, casting, final machining), there will be a bunch of money out laid before you would see any ROI. To top it off, ROI would be slow, if you made it all back.

360-1s already do that so it would have to be substantially more to make any sense.

What market did you guys research? Those numbers at that price, I am sure you would have had swarms of guys on those like a fat kid on cake!

For $1500 a pair you couldn't keep them on the shelf. IMO the SBM market is stale, we need good blocks the most and a canted valve head that will flow in the 380s or more. I know.....I know, it won't look like an X head and the ports would like a BBC or a Ford and the rockers wouldn't all be on the same shaft. I don't give a $hit!!! Go ahead and tell me about the Gen III Hemi, I have yet to see one running in an old car at any local drag strip.
Hey I can dream can't I? Now where did I leave my crack pipe.......

That's good for probably a stock 5.7, but not what most are looking for. The new Hemi is a great engine, just not a ton of parts out there yet. 6.1 blocks?

Re: SB MOPAR HEAD - 06/02/15 06:57 PM
There are plenty of genIII parts, they are just real expensive. I have a set of eagle heads 2 sets of early 5.7 heads, 2003 and 2011 injectors and everything to assemble an engine for a pickup or durango but the cost of the stuff to put it in something old is very cost prohibitive.
Oil pan
Headers, I can't find any manifolds to fit an early car.
Ign controller
Carb intake, even the crappy ones cost $500+ a decent one is $1000
EFI controler and harness, even if I use my 03 computer it is not cheap to set up.
Engine mounts
Engine accessories
I think I figured out a way to hook it to a 904 cheap (Jeep converter, 5.7 flex plate) unless someone knows why this won't work.
A 6.1 block is not needed for most guys, the line of site flow path the air takes to the center of the cylinder is not affected much at all by the smaller bore, look at the 2014 engine masters competetion for proof. They ran GINOURMOUS heads on 5.7 blocks and mopped up not just power per cube but low end TQ and all out HP were awesome. Even the Kass ferd hemi had bores about the size of a 273 and came in 5th place. Bore size is just not as critical on a hemi as a wedge.
