Do these bearings look OK?

Do these bearings look OK? - 05/28/15 03:50 AM

Hi,

These are brand new rod and main bearings, cut the plastic off of the boxes myself and they don't look right to me. The mains are Speed Pro part #119-M and the rods are Clevite #CB-743-HN. They almost look burnt, I don't know how else to describe it. What do you think? TIA

Yes, Some performance bearing sets don't have the final flash coating of tin. They don't look pretty, But work just fine.

I get those bearings 119 all the time and have never seen a set like that send them back. Maybe China will do a better job next time

I have seen that before. Our last set looked like that. They are running fine in our 540. I wouldn't worry.

Mine are never "pretty", but they don't look like THAT, either.

Competition Series bearings have an unusual appearance. They are not the normal white/gray color because the flash tin plate process has been eliminated. That's what the main bearings are.

I have several sets of new Clevite mains that look like that also, they measured good on the clearnances with a dial bore gauge so I used them, crank turns fine with no rods or pistons attached so in my book there golden up

I just went thru the same thing, I open my Clevite rod and main bearings look similar to yours. Called Clevite and the tech person said this is normal and it was from the rinse process, but is perfectly fine. My rod bearings #cb-743 hn had scratches on 3 sets all in the same place on all of the upper shells, Waiting for replacements to assemble my motor. I have used Clevite bearings before and never recalled them looking this bad! Matt

Same bearings I use in my hemi. That's normal from what I've seen and used.
