valve body question - 03/23/15 03:18 AM

What is the exact meaning of "clean neutral"??? I see it noted in valve body descriptions but never knew the meaning. Anybody have any experience with the turbo action XA valve bodies?

A clean neutral is 1st, 2nd, high, and a neutral after
the high gear... a lot of guys with alum rods want to
take the rpm load off the rods and use the clean neutral
so they dont have to back down with the engine revs..
this is with a reverse pattern shifter/valve body

There are a couple of differences -

"Clean Neutral" - N position after 3rd that exhausts ALL clutches and bands.

"Safe Neutral" - N position after 3rd that exhausts ALL clutches and bands EXCEPT the direct clutch. This allows components including the large direct drum from spinning out of control and remains spinning at engine rpm. Griner transbrake 1222G25SN has this feature.

Most clean neutral VBs are made so that it is simply another N position after the run. The safe neutral is more complex to make but it is "safer".

Not much info on the Turbo Action units. The website says call for more info.

Just went that route with my trans. Dave at Pro Trans did mine. He also has the correct arm available if you still utilize the stock N safety switch so that it will only engage the starter in PARK and the last N only. When talking with Paul at T/A on this subject (I was buying a different gate for my pos Cheetah shifter to accommodate new trans brake) he cautioned of the danger and seemed oblivious to the fact you could make them safe.
