Header choices with Victors on a 71 RR RB

Header choices with Victors on a 71 RR RB - 02/21/15 04:54 PM

We're putting a 440-based 512 into our 71 RR, using Victor heads and a 4 speed.
Thinking we'll be in the 600 HP range.

Want to use a header w/ 2" primaries and a 3-1/2" collector.

I see Hooker has two choices, #5101 & #5209 with slightly different tube configurations.

Using the #5101 (with 1-7/8") in our 70 Charger with good results on a 906 head, (really like a design with equal length primaries).

Now the concern is angled plugs and exhaust port location i.e. raised up and out.

Anyone with experience on this engine/body combo who can give us some guidance?

Thank you,

Joe

E Victor & MP Stage VI heads have the exhaust ports raised ~ 3/8" and spread about 1/4" over OEM heads. My Hooker 5209 2" headers didn't look like they'd fit my Challenger when I switched to the Stage VI heads (torsion bar clearance issues), so I ended up switching to TTI's 2" B/E-body headers instead.

The TTIs fit nicely and are what I'd recommend to avoid having to either or on the Hooker 2" to fit.

You should check TTI's web site for all the footnotes they list for each header application, in case there's something else you need to know for a 4-speed install, since I run a 727.

TTI makes a header designed for the raised and extended port heads, but they are 2 1/8" to 2" step headers. I have hooker super comp 2" on the victor headed 505" in my 67 coronet. They have some dings to clear a few spots, but those were put in by the original owner and on stock port heads. I didn't have to do any more clearancing when I installed the victors.

Thanks guys, hey G Bob, do you have the 2" 5101s or 5209s on your car?
