Which intake would be better for street strip use the eddy RPM or a holley street dominator. Have not decided on the cam yet. auto with 373 going into a ebody. cnc ported rpm heads

According to every dyno test and article I've ever seen, you can't beat the RPM. I have one on my 451, and although Its the only manifold I've tried I'm pretty happy with the crisp throttle response and it pulls to 6500 and above.

If you have room for the hood to close with the RPM, use it.

Holley Street Dominator here.

The cross over point in torque is about 5,000 rpm for a switch from the RPM to a good single plane, so unless you are going to use a very high stall converter and a fairly large cam, then the RPM.

If hood clearance is an issue, Holley Street Dominator.

Love the one on my '63!

I have the RPM on my 470. Love it!

and from the gear I would say this is mostly
a street car.... RPM

470 Low deck, Toss up on a low deck between the Street Dommy and the RPM with the edge going to the SD. a little plenum radiusing from the flange and porting to the SD between the 2-1 and 5-7 (consecutive firing holes) makes a pretty noticeable difference on the SD so ported I really like the SD which on a 470 also has the benefit of pretty short and unrestricted runners to the Intake valves at WOT.

470 RB motor, Automatic toss up between the Street Dommy and the Indy 440-2d. 470's like to rev and the 2D breathes deeper trhen the RPM. On a 440 RB I'd take the RPM though since a 440" motor will take a few 100 RPM more to hit the sweet spot all else being equal.

Pick the right heads and cam though and you really would be happy with any of them.

4 speed I would prefer a single plane either way so a SD again. The TM-6/TM-7 is a great manifold up top (unported it's better then the SD OOTB) but will typically be a little down on torque to an SD below 3500-4000 on a typical street range compression type motor.

I'm not down on the RPM it's about the best OOTB (can't miss) manifold out there, it's just the 470 tend to be a bit torquier and rev happier (lower bobweight) , the other drawback to the RPM is that it's TALL and usually limits you to using a drop base 3" high air cleaner on a flat hood B/E body.

If I was buying all new parts I'd use a Mopar M1 4500 intake with a dual pattern Holley 750 DP carb.

Andy, I own a few of your books and hesitate to question anything you reccomend, but a 750 cfm carb on a 470 cube mill with aftermarket heads? Seems pretty conservative. Especially with the M1 single plane intake; it would seem that in order to make the single plane pay off, we would clearly need to take advantage of some upper end HP? Won't 470 cubes outrun the 750 by the time the M1 gets into its wheelhouse??? Mathmatically, at 85% V.E., a 470 needs 750cfm at 6500. This seems to perhaps support your choice, but I'd hate to limit the motor at the entry point like that, knowing that an 850 will run great and give you more ability to breath and make HP up top. (???)

OP seems to have more of a street engine than a race engine so the 750 would work better 90% of the time.

If the car spends all of its time on the street then I'd use a Performer RPM with a 800 cfm Edelbrock carb. I ran that setup on my low deck 470 and made enough power to run mid-11's in my '65 Coronet. (with HP manifolds)

My 63 is mostly a street car and I use the Indy dual plane at 493 cubes. I have no complaints at all as it seems to work very nice for me but I have not tried any other intake to compare it to. But the driveability is really great at any rpm in any gear so I will say I am happy with it on my street/strip car. I would like to try a good single plane one day just to see how it does compared to this Indy dual plane. Ron

RPM on my lo deck 512 Works great and pulls to 6000ish with Stealth heads.

Andy did you ever set it up for the strip and bring it back? I know you brought it once but it didn't hook with your suspension and tires.
