Daytona small tire car???

Daytona small tire car??? - 02/01/15 10:45 PM

I was kicking the idea around about using a Daytona chassis for a ladder bar small tire car.

Is this a possibility?
Where would a guy start?
I believe Mopar used to sell a kit to convert these to RWD...... What did this kit consist of?

By the popularity of the Fox body in small tire racing I figured the Daytona is similar in size and weight..... It's just the fwd that messes things up.

Look up Tim Davis, he had a small tire car for some time, he did ok. LoL won ALOT of races.

If you are planning on going out and actually doing some small tire races I would get a new plan. It would basically be considered a back half car which is a no go

A Mopar powered 64 Nova would make an impression.

That kit consisted of 3 tubes basically, front one
was part of a K-member, trans mount tube and I think
the third was the rear upper shock mount... that
kit is no longer available from MP.. but I heard
there was someone making his version... but in
that class I dont think you want to go that way

I have a friend with a Daytona, back half rails, the front suspension kit, and I think a matching axle. He wants to get rid of it. Pm me if interested.

I was hoping the other one was a tube chassis car .. I have built a stroker 5.7 I want to put in one.. It is 3.937 bore 4.05 stroke 14.6cc domed pistons 65cc combustion chamber, cam:::

int exhaust
lift 0.581 0.591
dur 241* 246*
lobe seperation 114*
open @.050 9.5* btc 60* bbc
close @.050 51.5* abc 6* atc

I was going to go carb but have now ordered the Holley Dominator system to run it..hoping to run low 10"s but still looking for a daytona body close to me..

There's 8 listed on R/J some of those could be bought rolling. Also one listed that needs repair to the front end pretty cheap. There is always a lot of Daytona's for sale.

yeah I look every 3 or 4 days there is only one of those remotely close to my budget and it needs lots of work IMO for what he is asking..I would only go about half what he is asking..

Look at Jeg's, they sell a complete kit for Daytona's, shadows's etc.

As soon as money will allow I'm going to do the same thing. I want to build a twin turbo big inch Mopar.

Re: Daytona small tire car??? - 02/03/15 08:00 AM

I wouldn't per say back half the car I'm thinking more along the lines of graphting in a ladder bar kit, it's allowed in my neck of the woods....... Not sure how the rest would go.

I wish they had designed the hatch differently......

Looks like it was a bolt on kit. That should pass tech for small tire racing.

I would love to have bought this one for 14 grand and stuck a healthy G3 Hemi in it, would have been a fun car. It's a big tire car.

Not a Daytona but this was sure a fun car. 10.0's all day long with a .030 over 440 stock crank, TRW piston engine.

Re: Daytona small tire car??? - 03/20/15 02:25 AM

I was making the Daytona rwd conversion kits for about 15 years now but I decided to stop after I used up the last of the parts I had cut out. there had not been very much interest in the last few years and I have been busy with other work so I decided not to invest the money back into making another batch of parts. I also removed everything from my website, so the link that is posted earlier does not work.
I do still have an 88 Shelby Daytona that is a RWD converted rolling chassis if anyone is looking for a project. I had a thread with pictures of it here turbododge Daytona RWD conversion
I am not interested in making any more conversion parts but I will answer any questions you have if you are working on converting one.

Re: Daytona small tire car??? - 03/20/15 06:10 PM

I want to go the same kind of racing, small tire/ NO ET, and start messing with a G3 Hemi too. I sure wish Mopar had something from the 80's/90's that would work. Maybe I'll just put one in a Fox body...lol.

If you are going to give up on Mopar and run a fox body be smart about it and make it Chevy powered.
