What size headers tubes on your B1 combo's - 01/29/15 11:45 PM

B1 heads only please but I am soon going to be having a set of headers made for my B1 headed 572. Probably going to be a stepped header type design but what are you guys running. This will be for a nitrous combo. Thanks

Max RPM is also part of the equation and the amount
your gonna hit it with.. if I were home I could run
your engine through my header program to tell you
what you need.... but I cant.. its on my other puter

I wouldnt base my headers on that.. it has a good
bit of the info needed but it sure doesnt ask all
of the data needed... I've been using the header max
program for years and have tested it on the dyno

505 cu. in. with stainless step headers, 2" - 2-1/8" to 2-1/4" . Merge collectors. Shift at 6100, and cross the traps at 6700rpm.

I did 2.375" on my Coronet years ago and would never do it again . I don't care what some calculator says , it has to fit in car.A 2.25" would work just as good and it is way easier to buy and find in stainless or carbon . The B1 is only a 1.78" valve so its not fooling anybody by putting a macho pipe in it.

Though not a B-1 Chuck from best did a header test a while back and posted it. I believe it was an 572 -1. The smaller 2 1/8" were better until the very end of the range like 6000-6500

The only 2 chassis headers I have is 2 1/8 and 2 3/8 If I had 2 1/4 I'd try them, but they just don't give them away

Interesting post. Im having 622 with PSO heads built and will need headers. It is a pump gas engine with shift points around 7000ish in a 72 Barracuda. Have been told TTI 2"-2 1/8" step with 3 1/2 collector will be enough. Im kinda skeptical about them. If need be ill have custom ones made.

This is good advice ^^^^^. I would also advise against anything bigger than a 4" collector. J.Rob

John,
Mines 2 1/2" with 5" collectors...Not saying you need this size, but know one has been faster with B1 originals than us with our/your type car...Your gonna have more torque than you can use at the start and can use all the HP it can make out the back door !!

Just sayin !!

For your type of car Gary makes a very good argument. If you have to pull power anyway you might as well gain it on the top. I was thinking slow tanks like mine that need the torque.
