Duster, lower profile cowl hood

Duster, lower profile cowl hood - 01/05/15 08:34 PM

Does anyone know if there is someone out there that makes a lower profile, 2" cowl hood for a '71 Duster?

Searching around at the usual vendors you find mostly 4" + but not 2". Just looking for a little cool-guy style and a functional scoop, not a huge fan of larger scoops. I do actually need a little clearance with a taller intake so it would help with that too.

I bet I could have one made by someone but just wanted to see if there was an option somewhere.

Thanks,

- Greg

Was recently looking into the same thing for a Dart...No luck really.

Will end up buying a scoop and bonding it to a flat glass hood, or making a mold myself for a smaller scoop.

Good luck!

Unlimited sells a 3 or 3.5" cowl hood for these cars...not 2" but it looks pretty short and wont be a hassle or expensive like getting one custom made

I thought about making one myself. How strong do you think it would be if you bonded a scoop on then cut out the section under the scoop? Guess you could cut a u shape from the back edge to where you wanted it and leave the rest for strength.

Looked at the Unlimited page but they don't have an image of their 3 1/2" scoop on a hood. To me, 3 1/2" seems like it would be close enough to 4" to not make any noticeable difference in appearance.

2" just appears more subtle to me and gives a sleeker appearance. I don't need that much clearance either, seems like it would be a lot of extra unmetered air above the carb.

I bought my hood for the Rampage from AAR.. all they
offered was a 2" cowl, I wanted a 6" cowl... but
they would re-do it to a 4" max so I had them do
that... I would think any company would modify a
hood for you... calling does wonders

Yeah, of course but why not ask here? I was actually going to call anyway but it's more better to post questions here.

Not trying to make a big deal out of it, just seems odd that this particular configuration wasn't listed by anyone. Do a Google search for Duster 2" cowl hood and there isn't one picture that comes up. Maybe there's a reason for that?

My guess is most guys that run a cowl hood on a Chrysler product want a taller one for various reasons so there's probably a limited market for a lower one. There's also production schedules, cost of custom molds, etc.

MOST guys want the taller one.. hell 2" you can hardly
see any difference than a stock hood... JMO.. calling
is the only way ONCE you find a company that builds
the hood with any cowl... first thing is to find a
company that makes a quality part... I built the hood
thats on my car.. made it out of carbon fiber... no
one makes stuff for a P body

Has none one of you guys ever heard of a grinder with a cut off disc?? fiber glass is so easy to cut, like a hot knife through butter. Just buy a 4" scoop and a hood then make your own to suit your personal needs, its called hot rodding

Sorry Thump...short on time lately...with material, time and shipping, it would probably cost more than your buddy at Unlimited anyway

look up a few how-to vids on making bucks and molds...if you can understand the inner workings of a holley, laying fiberglass will be a cake walk.
