Nice project! I like the install so far it looks easy to work on given such a small space. Whose rockers and how come they are offset for RPM heads?
Posted By: paul69cuda

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 01/05/15 03:15 AM

ya i know but its wider than a chevy cowl by 2 inches each side i just l need it for the intake to fit under the hood and it does. now the intake i fell in love with it when i first saw it but my efi guy guy hate eddy's efi system so he sold me on the F.A.S.T efi. the rockers are T&D that pic makes it look offset but their not the other pic i have is a much better pic but it will not post.

If your computer has Microsoft Office Picture Manager on it, just open the pic with it, click Edit Picture, Compress, choose Documents size, then Save As and you're good to go.

How come you went with a 4.25" bore? For the extra beef in the cylinder walls?

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 02/08/15 04:41 AM

yes when i decided to build this motor my priority was not max hp but make it as indestructible as possible for the street and strip and reliable. instead of custom headers i have used stock cast iron log manifolds with v bands welded on. when i get the motor back i will take pics soon and post.

They work great, let's the rear of the spring travel easily. Simple to install, Speedway Motors sells them very reasonable.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 02/28/15 05:09 PM

Nice car. You might want to check valve to cylinder wall clearance W/ that small of a bore, especially if the block has little chamfer. Some bore notching might be in order....

I have never built a turbo car, but I really want to. Having said that, how will the engine be mounted? I would think mounting the turbo to the frame rail could cause problems if the engine moves at all (ie torquing out). I'm sure you have already thought that through; just wondering. Looks like a clean implementation so far. Will you be using an intercooler?

what brand of rocker arms are you using
Posted By: paul69cuda

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 07/24/15 02:50 AM

well this new turbo is way bigger than the borge warner so we will test fit motor and trans next week and test fit turbo and look into how best to mount it. for motor mounts i have solid mounts but now i am going to plate the motor but test fitting with t400 trans i bet i will have to modify trans tunnel. the rockers are T&D 1.6 with smith brothers push rods

if you are doing like me a single turbo 440 inch at the minimum go with an 88 mil
383 or 400 the same. i have 8.32 comp i should have done 10.0 comp i am learning from gino who i got the turbo from he is a grudge racer who really knows his [censored] about turbo cars and he is a dealer for precision turbos.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 08/20/17 06:17 AM

well its been a while since my last update nothing has changed on the car itself accept i have gotten my my new trans wich is a rossler case / bell housing and roller tail from proformance transmission it is a 2 speed t-400 which is good to 2000 hp so i think I'm covered now on a stout trans. we have decided it will work much better to do a strut front end so i had to order a set of strange gt-alumin front strut and brake kit wich i have taken up to chicago to fast forward race cars. the dart is on the chassis jig but will not be touched until race season is over wich gives me a little more time to gather all the ss pieces for the headers. now for my rant on this i was planning on taking to lights out in G.A but they have cancelled the leaf spring race due to not enough entries which pisses me off. i know their are other events but this is the event we go to every year so I'm butt hurt about this thats all. i will post new pics when things get rolling you will like them for sure and so will i seeing it get finished and coming back home.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 10/15/17 04:12 PM

expetations are in the 5s when all dialed in and tuned this is my goal but a 4.99 would be great in the 1/8. i should have this running 2018 and since i have never run a car with t-brake and a turbo and e.f.i i will be in learning mode all summer i believe. so i will be on 6psi boost to start and yes i will be wearing HUGGIES to start with BUHAHAHAHA. this has been an 8 year project so no seat time since i started so i will be in for a hell of a learning curve for a while. i am waiting to see were aron at fast forward race cars decides to put the 94 mill precision turbo i still will have a few months of assembly when i get it home sometime around christmass.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 10/15/17 05:28 PM

It looks to be a sweet build and you are doing it right. Just remember it's just a car, albeit a really fast car, leave your emotions in the trailer and use your head. You will be fine. You will love letting go of the button! Remember, it's just a switch, not a brake! When I first started and although I've never been faster than about 5.80, I got all geared up, belts and everything, and sat in the car and practiced the burnout routine and the staging/launch routine. For the most part I didn't want to go to the track and look like an idiot and it worked! I still sit in the car in the staging lanes and practice letting go of the button on the practice/delay box feature. And I still look like an idiot sometimes... whistling

has anyone had good or bad results with a magnafuel pump for a boosted app
Posted By: TRENDZ

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 04/29/18 09:14 PM

I have a friend that has been running a magnafuel electric pump in a street application for about 4 years without issue. Car has 16 injector set up. Makes just under 1000 hp before seeing a fuel pressure drop. He is switching to a mechanical driven pump this year along with a switch from pump gas to e85. Wants to turn it up some!

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 04/30/18 07:26 PM

I changed my fuel setup in my Valiant with the new combo and now I'm running a magnafuel 750 I'm hoping to finally start the car up this weekend and will report back to you my findings.
10 an feed and return with 8an to the carb is what I'm running for e85 and looking for 1000rwhp

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 05/01/18 02:58 AM

now are you guys boosted or N.A my dart is in chicago at fast forward race cars and Aaron is talking about a weldon pump.
Posted By: turbo toad

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 05/01/18 03:45 AM

I'm running the pro tuner 750 magnafuel rates it at 2000hp from what I've read on the net its safely good for 1500hp in a boosted application.
I'm running twins on a e85 blow thru setup

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 05/01/18 03:51 AM

I've heard good things about some of the Weldon pumps also.
Posted By: TRENDZ

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 05/01/18 04:34 AM

I haven’t messed with weldon pumps for a loooong time. They are all overpriced, and most of the automotive race pumps were not rated for continuous duty. The aircraft pumps are priced accordingly... Now understand, I haven’t even looked at a weldon pump since the 1990s! Things could have changed.
Yes we are boosted. Base pressure is set at 50 psi, plus (so far) 13 psi topped on that with boost.
This on E10 gasoline.

I really like the build, and I hate to be critical on such a nice build, but I really think you should re think the solid manifold to firewall connection. Something is going to fail there.

it was a 440source 8 quart pan then when he did the suspension it was 3 inches from the ground so i tried to order a moroso short drag pan but it was on back order for months so i had him cut it and make one that would fit what we needed. by the way i have a ton of brand new parts for an A body and universal parts if u know anyone who is doing one

Looks good, Paul. Can't wait to see it in person. Any updated side shots of the entire car?. I would like to see how it sits.

Strange that there has been very little reaction from Moparts members....they seem far more interested in a blown Chevy motor dyno pull video.

sorry no new pics but we have learned fast xfi 2.0 did not like 190 lbs injectors so we are dropping down to around 100 lbs inj so we can get it to idle below 1400 rpm Rich has been great to work with we have learned a lot on how this stuff works if u are going to try this i 100% recomend Rich here on the board to do it. if you are like us and have no idea about tuning this stuff he is the man period.

Those are excellent results up
Your motor really responded well to the changes bow up
You got me thinking about a Procharger now, DANG IT whistling
I'm under the impression that the EFI injectors should be good to 99.8 % duty cycle and still be safe, yes or no? confused

Injectors get unpredictable above 85% duty cycle. Pintles start acting like a valve trane in float.

I think those dyne heads are on tracks and slide to and from the vehicle. The hub dynos sure have some advantages. No hole in the ground, no slippage, no tire worries.

they slide in and out so all i had to do was back into the area between them and then they jacked it up removed the rear wheels and pushed it into the spot on the floor jack it was easy.

Couple weeks ago we went to Union Grove and TnT on a Thursday night. track was prepped decent could of got 20+ runs ( we did 8) to busy check out cars and letting ours cool down. Think longest we waited in staging lanes was 5 minutes. So if you want lot of test runs might be worth the drive. Last year at Cordova we only made it out twice on friday night got 3 runs first trip and 2 the second. Sure miss when Cordova had Thursday night test sessions.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 06/29/20 05:37 PM

FINALLY MADE IT TO THE TRACK got 3 passes in to get used to it and yes i was very happy after a messed up 1st pass. okay so 1st pass i go up get in the burnout box do the line lock and it pushes through the bow and im like okay move up to stage get the bulbs trans brake on pedal to the floor let go of the button and boom flat on its face no boost it was like driving my mini van 8.88 at 88 mph 1/8 mile. go to pit trying to figure out what the hell is wrong so we let it cool down drive over to a spot to test the trans brake i push the button and it pops right into high gear at 2100 rpm so we go find matt from redline performance who tuned the car and he ask what the shift point was set at and i told him it was suppose to be 6000rpm well it was still at factory setting of 2100 rpm so he changes it. now 2nd pass 4lbs boost it does a burnout this time hit the bulbs and bam it leaves like it should. 1.77 60 foot 7.52 1/8 mile at 96.3 im happy now everything works but i needed more. so i decided to go with 8lbs boost on my ams 2000 controler wich is number 2 on my selector on my dash. at 8 lbs of boost it makes 650 hp at the axle hub so i go up do the motions hit the bulbs and BAM this thing leaves real good 60 foot 1.64 6.76 1/8 mile at 105.6 mph. i was very very happy it was super hot sat at Cordova but it hooked and ran straight with no leaks or issues i could have ran more but it was hoy as hell. i will be at this level for the rest of the summer for seat time i feel good with the launch getting used to it but i can go to the next level wich is 800hp still on shell 93 pump gas. Before i change to C16 wich i will do after Mopar National's for Aaron to race it and get the Suspension lined out but at this level that im running it has been perfect so far.

That is one sweet build you have there, and you gotta be happy with the first outing.

You should be REALLY proud of yourself for having the wisdom to get some seat time before turning it up.

That thing is going to fly once you get comfortable in it, and start turning up the wick.

buddy it has been since 03 when i had my Cuda that i had a fast car. i may be a little crazy every now and then but turning this thing up with no seat time i would probably get killed wrecking the car. level 2 that im on know felt real good so im going to stay here for a while until it feels like normal then i will bump up to 12 lbs i would love to get a 5.99 before this year is over and i think i can as the driver but probably nothing more than that until next year.

Re: test pic 68 turbo dart project - 09/07/20 02:36 AM

Had a good weekend at cordova dragway met some cool guys from moparts and got 4 passes in first pass was a clean pass. left on transbrake 4lbs of boost and went to 8lbs 1.52 60ft - 6.434 at the 1/8th at 109.9. next pass was i was going to 12lbs but driver error on my part bigtime then the night was over so i decided to go back sat for another try. so i got their sat made a clean pass but i did not stage proper so i did not get a time slip. so now i had to wait 2 hours last pass T/B leave 4lbs go to 12 lbs boost 1.52 60 foot - 6.21 1/8 mile at 115.74. the funny thing is i want to read the data but i have no idea how to get to it RACE PAC or my FAST E.F.I system BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If anyone who was there has any photo's please post i would love to see them.

When Matt gets done it'll be wide awake.

But be careful when Matt gets done tuning an engine there's usually a cost. The need to upgrade to better shocks, tires, suspension, transmission, rear end. ect. Lol

It looked like you ran the edelbrock pro flo fuel rails. These are -6AN size from the factory did you have to enlarge them for your HP level?

Great looking build, and great looking car.

I'm sure it feels really good to finally have it out and running. It's really going to fly once you get it sorted out.

I don't know what your car weighs... but your car on 12psi runs the same as mine does with 23psi!!! LOL You are making some GOOD power for sure!

well Mopar National's was a blast we had 2 issues this weekend over heating and a bad cell in the Bat wich i fixed with a new one. i met alot of cool people just asking questions about the dart and i took a couple of guys for cruise laps in Heath. so all in all it was a great shake down of the car to see what problems i will have after driving it as far as i did and as hot as it was thursday and friday.. Saturday was the best day we left the hood off all day and night since their was no rain and the temp was only low 80's and we went from the track back to heath then down and around Buckeye lake and then back to Heath to the show acroos from the dealership .

Getting the bugs worked out of the dart 1. overheating with 2 small rads on the street 2. low charging with everything on for night driving i did 2 things one was put a dash 6 bung on top of the driver side rad to let air out to equalize the water and wrap all the hot side pipe with heat wrap and it worked i was cooking the rads it took 3 2 inch wide rolls to cover from headers to turbo and from the turbo to the struts. this worked my temps dont get over 140 driving around town and making some blast on the interstate driving for about 30 minutes non stop at 85 degree with high humidity. 2. electrical i have a 100 amp alt wich i am upgrading to a 150 amp this weekend wich should solve the problem after that i need to get some 30 inch tall tires so i can drive on the highway faster than 40 mph. other than that it runs perfect now i will need to get to the track and make 7 lbs boost trans brake launches this fall to get me into the 5's in the 1/8 on pump gas at 12 lbs of total boost i hope well thats the plan.
