Drawing for Hemi & B/RB oil pan rail? - 12/23/14 08:50 AM

Has anyone got a drawing for the oil pan bolt pattern on a Big Block Chrysler. I would check my Mopar engines book, but it's in storage

Thanks in advance!

I've never seen anyone publish that drawing. It isn't in any of the Mopar books. I don't know where the oil pan guys got their dimensions, maybe reverse engineering? That could explain why some oil pans don't fit very well.

I have been sent one by a friend in Sweden (Thanks Tom!)but the file was corrupt. I will try again and if it works out, I will check out that it fits, and I will then send out something to you Go Green. PM me your email address.

here is the drawing that I sent to Alan.
I also sent an DWG and DXF also.

I got the PDF drawing from a Moparts member, donīt know where it comes from.
The two bolt holes in front and the two at the back didnīt line up when I made an paper copy and tested on my Megablock, so check those out.

Probably make sense. Not dimensioned as they are not drilled and tapped in this process step. Just guessing.

Nice info though, thanks.

I did some quick measurements on a 1977 block and they were within about 0.015" of that drawing. I didn't make an oil pan, but a jig that mounted to the various holes and it fit well between any pair of holes. For example:

Drawing Mine
4.200 4.187 between the holes (large spacing)4-3/16
2.700 2.687 between the holes (small spacing)2-11/16
2.740 2.756 between the holes (ends) ~2-3/4 = 2.750
0.580 0.580 side offset rear holes ~37/64 = 0.578"

I didn't use the front holes, but I just went in the garage and made a quick side offset measurement and 0.460 looks like it matches that drawing (1.140-0.680=0.460). When adding up the spaces, the drawings 4.20 and 2.70 fit better then the fractions I used.

I have access to a laser scanner at work - would a cad file of the pan rail help? I can get one but it might take a week or so.
