I had them on my 500 inch build and they worked out fine except I bought them when they first came out and I had to machine #5 cap. It sat to high and wouldn't let the oil pan sit flush. That was many years ago so I'm sure they addressed that issue. That engine ran 8.60's and lasted 275 passes before the block cracked. They are still being used on an engine to this day.

I have the 440Source steel billet main caps on my 493 in my 63 now. I put this eng in the car and on the road in June 2011 and still going strong. I have only raced it once a year the past 3 years as its a 99% driver street car. Ron

I think your better off buying either Ductile iron main caps, if you can find a set , or aluminum main caps instead of steel I bought a set of the 440 Source aluminum 440 main caps this summer for a recent customers 440 motor, the machine shop said they where great to machine and install. They wanted to know the brand name as they want to start offering them to any other BB Mopar engine builder that come into there shop from now on I've always been against using aluminum main caps on iron blocks so I use to use Mopar brand Ductile iron main caps until that source dry up after Ma Mopar stop offering them I had to switch so I went with the aluminum ones based on what many other racers and engine builders have said on here about the aluminum main caps

The one low deck 499 (about 730 hp)motor I built with aluminum caps took a lot of beating, then was sold to be used with nitrous. It still is in one piece after a lot of passes! I like aluminum caps because it absorbs the stress by flexing, where a steel cap won't as much, forcing the stress back into the block.

and if your going to be making any serious power don't forget to add a girdle. take a look at our bcr girdle kits which include main caps.

I much prefer aluminum caps on any stock block motor that is going to make substantial power.
