looks great, should haul ash. One thing... will it pass tech with the bars bent like that? I thought they had to be straight

Re: Radial Duster Build - 11/26/14 05:08 PM

Great build! Very similar to mine, your a little farther along than me though.

What did ya use to get the undercoat crap off the inside of the quarters? That stuff is a pain. Also how close is your driveshaft to the top of the tunnel at that ride hight?
Posted By: rgreule

Re: Radial Duster Build - 11/26/14 05:09 PM

the rear suspension, 9 inch, SRD assassin bars, sliders

the intercooler and brake pedal setup.

HDK front suspension

make the fonts really tuck in nicely

the turbo setup stuff.. will be doing new headers, and redoing the firewall in the next few weeks...

dash was fitted for the racepak cluster

thats all for now.. will be nice when i can take it apart and get it all painted and the suspension all powdercoated all nice..

thanks for looking

the tunnel will need raised in the back section of it, i will mod the rear seat to make it fit.. all the undercoating and sound deadener on the inside of the quarters, doors and so on was all blasted off when i had the car blasted.. saved me a TON of work

I like the car.The 8 3/4 in Dizusters mild turbo build didn't last a season. pinion shaft broke , cleared all the ring gear teeth at 20 psi

I'm pulling my Demon apart now. Was hoping to go with a smaller tire, new moly cage, and put a back seat in it!!
What cage is that, and what are the size of your tubs? I'm running a 32x14.5W tire and would like to reduce the tub size to fit a rear seat. Awesome build!

the inspector has looked the car over and said everything looked great.. getting the sticker after the cage is all painted..

ive seen a ton of 25.x setups with the door bars like this to ease getting in and out of and they passed ok.. do a google image search of "25.5 cage" and youll notice how many cars have the door bars like that..

I have done dozens of 25.5, 25.2, and 25.3 cages. Was just pointing out something that would not be good in some inspectors eyes. But if your local guy says its good, no worry's.

I like the dash. Who makes the K-member?

Its not that. The side bars cross in the door opening is so low and toward the front in a barrel roll your legs could come over the bars and out the side. If it was higher and more centered in the opening it couldn't happen. That's why the x in the roof, all the window net stuff has to be in the bars etc. They want you and all your limbs to stay inside the cage.

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/08/14 09:50 PM

im not worried about the cage not passing at all.. has already been looked over..

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/18/14 06:12 AM

When I saw only the title of this thread, I imagined a P&W Wasp in a Duster. I thought, either that's a heck of an engine swap or it's some sort of crop duster.

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/18/14 06:45 AM

Great build, love it.
A couple of questions;
A - What do you think the car will weigh
B - Why two master cylinders? I see some race cars with two or three masters.

Keep the updates coming.
Posted By: rgreule

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/18/14 07:10 AM

im not sure what it will weigh.. id guess 3200 or so maybe more.. and it has a master for the front and the rear.. because for one that is all i could find from wilwood and for two it will have dual calipers in the back to help with building boost before i get staged..

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/22/14 07:34 PM

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/24/14 01:02 AM

Got any pics of how you put the front leaf spring pockets into the frame? Want to see if how I am planning is close to what you ended up with. You running a 20 inch front segment? I have 25's and want to end up with 3 holes for adjustment in the pockets. Thinking about sinking my rear sliders up into the rails like you did but having the ability to adjust them height wise some.
Posted By: rgreule

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/31/14 05:07 AM

new hot side is all finished.. turned out great imo..

set the grill in it to get a glimps of how it will look.. pretty excited

a few more of the engine bay almost finished.. next is change the fire wall to get rid of the old steering, and brake holes..

steering stuff looks good in there..

thats all for now.. gonna get a bell 3.25 radiator care and do a custom radiator that will fit better and work better, got to raise the tunnel a little under the back seat and probably do something with the front so the tires dont hit the inners if it ever comes down hard or something..

thanks for looking

10 head bolts just like a SBF.. and there is alot of turboed SBF, i dont think ill have any issues, especially with good studs and good MLS gaskets.

Re: Radial Duster Build - 01/03/15 02:45 AM

hoping for the best I was just surprised that hadn't been mentioned... I know of one build that will be using a procharger where the owner sold off his W9 heads in favor of the thicker/heavier cast W8 as they would hold up to the task better. I'm an N/A dummy so this boost stuff is way out in left field for me . Interesting build and look forward to more updates

small update.

i decided im gonna need more room up front for the custom radiator and fan setup. so i cut the front core support off and am going with a tubular setup to hold the radiator and grill etc.. it allows me to move the radiator foward like 3 inches till it is about .25 inches behind the grill.. will be nice having that extra room around the engine..

no pics of the tubing stuff yet but there will be...

before

after

I think the multi tone silvers look nice on modified cars. Either that or a factory style scheme (I think the factory got it right in 71) Sassy Grass with the V24 hood blackout package looks pretty awesome on a stock or a modified car.

Posted By: ScottSmith_Harms

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/20/15 04:59 AM

Well in that case......Here's my favorite list:

#1. Black......Looks killer in pictures and the first day you paint it, then you have to be ok with a million imperfections, because you will see more every time you look at it! In other words, my favorite just as long as someone else gets to take care of it smile

#2. Tie between FJ6 Sassy Grass and GY3 Curious Yellow (IMHO)

#3. EV2 Hemi Orange

#4. FC7 Plum Crazy

#5. A modern blend of one of the above, similar color overall but more "pop" with pearls and metal flake additives.

*Special note: I don't think Viper Red or Viper Blue looks right on an older car, you see it all over the place and it sort of has a "cheap" look IMO.
Posted By: rgreule

Re: Radial Duster Build - 12/20/15 08:44 PM
