CSR tranny shield question

I am thinking ahead to next season. One item I would like to put on the 64 is a CSR tranny shield to replace the blanket that is currently on it. Anyone have clearance problems putting one on an early B body? Thanks!! Ted

I just put one on my 62 this winter to replace my blanket.

Cut the ears off both sides of the trans case, and I had to hammer the floor up in a couple places.

No cutting required though for me.

Cools MUCH better then the blanket did.

If you're not running 9's Id continue to use the blanket.... I don't have an early B, but something I'd highly consider is to get your hole saw out and cut holes in the floor board to access the bell housing bolts. We ran the Lofgren blanket for years on both cars..... if a blanket is causing your trans to heat up, you have much bigger probs in my book...

In my conversation pertaining to my A body in which the shield wouldn't fit with the 727, Big Dad mentioned that he too had to cut the floor in his old B car to get the sheild to fit.

Ted, When I was upgrading everything for the new motor set up one thing I wanted was a CSR shield to have a clean look and avoid the hassle of a blanket and separate flexplate shield.

Well, I ordered one from Summit, trimmed my case, and not one of the bolt holes would line up. I even went so far as to throw the trans in the back of the van and drive down to summit and test each each of the remaining 3 they had in stock.

Not one of them would allow me to install all the bellhousing bolts.

I gave up on the thought and just installed the blanket and flexplate sheild.

ANd, to be honest, after seeing some of the pics that have been posted over the years of those shields not containing a front drum explosion I feel 1000 times better about that decision. (even though I now have a billet drum)

That's why I prefer the blanket Bill.... it absorbs the shock of the explosion. At the point of the violence it's probably better to try and slow stuff down than to contain it. FWIW the shield I purchased from John Cope all the bell bolts fit.... a couple looked to be "off" but I was able to get the bolts in and started.

I bought the CSR shield from CRT and put it in over the summer. It is a tight fit in my duster. The shield fit the case with no trimming needed.

I also had issues with bolt hole alignment. It's like they take a guess at where they should be. Because it's an sfi part, it can't be modified. I sent mine back to the manufacturer, and they ground the hole bigger, and put an oversized bushing in it. It came back(modified) and still was wrong. I fixed it myself and swore I would badmouth them every chance I get.

I also found it much easier to put studs in the engine bellhousing instead of bolts.

I had one in the 64, It fit the case ok but, the floor ..ahhhhh, no

I have the blanket on it now. But it is not SFI. No tranny cooling problems as it has a good cooler on it. What are the rules for 9.99 and quicker?

my sheild didnt fit either.i had to install it without one bushing to get it in.in all my years ive never had tech check my sheild.
