Torque numbers per CID?

Torque numbers per CID? - 09/29/14 12:33 AM

Is this an accurate statement for torque values per CID?

Normally aspirated on pump gas,,, real numbers,,
1.2 is a pretty good number for a decent engine
1.25 is very good
1.3 is outstanding
Race engines,,,
1.4 & above gets very very expensive,,,,
1.6+ is in the Pro stock area & expensive
Thx Matt

My pump gas motor is 1.27tq/CID. I never looked at TQ/cube or HP/cube. I just get try to get a good package together that I will be happy with.

Would anyone know if by going from Sunoco 98 to 94 would result in a loss of torque?

That would depend on the combo.... too many variables to say.

Seems to me guys are too worried about torque. I suppose if you are running a 2 speed torque is more important that if you are using a 3 speed. If you have 4 or 5 gears, total torque and the shape of the curve are less important than if you have 2 or 3 gears.

If I know that my minimum engine speed is ( for example) is 4500 rpm (stall speed or on the chip) I can see no reason to care about torque (or horsepower) at a lower speed (say 3000 rpm).

All that said, your numbers posted are a fairly loose rule of thumb.

What's the consensus about having your stall speed well beyond your peak torque rpm?
(turbo application)

It means you're turbo motor makes a ton on you're like mine, but if you tighten it up you can't spool... Lol

I know why the above poster gave the .

Ive seen numbers near the 1.4/1.5 mark on small block stroker builds and there is where at times if the chassis isn't set up for it, its a hard to hook situation.

If only the small blocks could get past the 4.100 bore max (yes some get a hair more) and get over squared.

Numbers from around year 2K, 451 1.36, 528 1.33. Pump gas wedges

I've built and dyno tested a bunch of different Mopar motors, race and street, N/A and roots blown with similar combinations. I have noticed that the compression ratio can and will make the difference when the motor makes more torque than HP on the N/A motors It seems like on the pump gas big blocks with aluminum heads around 10.25 to 1 to 10.75 to 1 the motor will go from more torque than HP to more HP than torque On the N/A race motors I've noticed that when peak HP occurs at a higher RPM the peak torque follows it also

Mine was 1.35 per CI. It is 10.9 to 1 pump gas small block.

Pump gas N/A 11:1 655ci @ 950ft/lb = 1.45, I'm pretty sure were gonna have to work on the chassis set up next season
