To buy or no to buy(440 that is) - 09/13/14 02:19 AM

I have a chance to buy a fresh 440 from a machine shop here are the specs

440 block dated 11-4-66
Stock 1968 906 heads
Steel crank cut 20/20
Trw forged pistons l2355f .030
Stock rods
Double roller timing chain
Purple cam 990153?
Main studs, arp rod bolts, arp head bolts
Roller rockers,mopar performance lifters
Less intake and carb
What carb and intake should it need?
What would be a fair price?
What kind of power should this make?
Looking to put it in a 1965 plymouth backed by a 4 speed
Thanks

Can't find that camshaft grind.
Properly sized camshaft I would say 425-445 horsepower. Should be around 9.5 compression ratio.
I would use a performer rpm and a holley 750 mechanical if it were mine.
I would think fresh from a machine shop, $1500 would be a good price.
But to build it would arguably cost $2k+

I agree also, as well as with the other stuff. Probably 2K to have done without tax plus the cost of the block. I don't believe Mopar ever made a cam with that part number though.

?? I'd look at a summit catalog if I were you guys. I'd guess there's more than 3k invested (if all parts were new) including machine shop fees. If you can get it for $1500 that'd be a good deal.

I think we would need to know more honestly to know what a good price is, which is why I put (arguably 2k+)
I've built this engine very cheaply. A standard bore block in good shape could be honed and these pistons slapped in. No balancing required. If the block wasn't decked, align honed, etc. In other words, NOT BLUEPRINTED so to say, this engine can be built for next to nothing. Even if it were only bored but everything was rebuit, this engine comes in very inexpensive.
But if everything was done right, Mr. Yuck is right. This engine would cost around 3k or so.

You should get out more often.....to buy the pilot bearing that mounts in the torque converter ring.

I'd say $2000 would be a really good price, the guy probably wants $5000 and will take $3500. At least that's what I am seeing in Craigslist when I look.
