For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/08/14 03:50 PM

Looks like Larry Larson didnt make a pass yesterday
due to some electronics issues.. from what I heard
the MSD equipment had issues... he had his GROUP of
guys burning the mid night oil... trying to make DAMN
sure they get it running right for today
Best of luck to all
EDIT
Lutz ran a 6.89 at 168 mph with the chutes out
Bailey ran a 6.52 at 226 mph

There was a video posted of him doing a 300 foot burnout at the track. No video of the pass, maybe it was aborted?

Looks like Larson finally made it down the track..
he made a couple of attempts, on the first came close
to taking the tree out... then made another hit and
ran a 6.99 on a fairly easy pass.... his electronic
issue was a loose crank sensor

Took a few passes to get that... last pass it went mid 8s
so he has to take the 6.99 for the day and moves on
but your right... today was the first try at the track
EDIT
I think Cline ran a 6.94 so that would put him third
and Larson 4th

I was suprized that I hear he was running a 59* block,
I thought he was running a 48* last year with the W-9s..
also heard he couldnt run in the SB class... too many
cubes.. I hear that 425 or 427 is the max for the SB class..
he had a rough way to go this year... BUMMER

Bailey is always on borrowed time w/that car!! Jeff tried to run it a cpl years ago & it was a mess then. Hope he can keep his car together & make some more good #'s. Lutz all the way hopefully this year. Guy works hard & plays even harder. Lots of jealous people out there talk junk here on the internet. If they even had a clue or knew the man/family they would think & talk a different tune.

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/10/14 06:03 AM

Elvis went 9.04 @ 151 to finish day 2 which he claims was a "soft" pass. 300+ mile road trip to next track. He has the EFI setup on It and and he says 2nd pass with the EFI, just gonna sneak up on it. I think It's down on power from the carbs and so do some others. He still is crushing the class he is running pretty good I believe. Haven't seen any point status though.
Posted By: Monte_Smith

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/10/14 06:29 AM

Eddie is not down on power...........he has the timing pretty soft and it struck the tires today and his 60ft was 12 numbers off from the 8.80 pass.

It has two 90mm drive by wire GM throttle bodies on it with the Holley EFI.

It has only 3 track passes on it with a new system and running .80s.................not bad

Hopefully I can see some video coverage of the car actually run and not go off of hear say.. I'll be interested to see what It does with some more passes and better air. Plus a good hooking track always helps. Will see If he can run any quicker then last years best of 8.58 @ 159 mph. I don't think he will beat last years average of 8.68 et.

That car has been totally redone since Jeff tried to run it for Terzich. New motor, new wiring, new system. It was pretty trouble free last year and had a 6.70 average for the week. I would hardly call that borrowed time. The issue this year is just parts failure. It cracked a head through the bolt hole and into combustion chamber. No way to weld it. I left before they found the issue with block, but it is probably a cracked main web. That car still has a cast block and heads.........time for billet......LOL!!!

They are not really leaning on it at only 30lbs of boost. With a billet block, heads and 50lbs of boost, it would be much faster.

Jeff pushed a head gasket today. They fixed it and made a couple more passes. Saw them on the side of the road though and it was running hot. He thinks the pushed gasket may have collapsed radiator inside. Not sure what they were going to do.

As of 6:30pm Larson had NOT left Topeka........so not sure what issues they were having

Not sure it qualifies as hear say, since I was standing there watching the car run, saw it strike the tires and also saw the time slip.........but ok.

Last years air was much better when the car ran that number. Weather so far has been soup and there was a SERIOUS headwind today at Topeka. Had the same tune in the Vette today that I had yesterday and it slowed from 193 and change to 189... Forecast calls for cooler toward end of week.

Edit: 7 minutes to go. Larson hasn't made it out and Lutz is swapping a head

Edit: Both are in the staging lanes on time, the S10 is missing a hood.

Lutz 6.94@213, not to shabby after removing a head, welding it, having it milled and then putting it back on

Word was that Larson had to change a conv yesterday
at the track and was there LATE getting done with it..
then a storm rolled in so they figured to stay the night
there and leave in the morning... but I'm guessing
he had some problems making it to the track today
since it shouldnt have taken him that long to get
there today... and then to take a 20 second.... but
he is still in it... he didnt even put on his wheelie
bars for the burn out

The only thing I wonder is why he didn't do a half hearted run in road trim. I am guessing the truck would still run sub 20 without any troubles. turning in a 12s slip could win him the average if some more people end up turning a 20 in. I don't know much about these sorts of things though I am just enjoying the show from the youtube live stream

I think he was trying to... JMO but when he did the
burnout it sounded fine but when he backed up and launched
it was farting and banging and I BELIEVE he killed
his batteries during the burnout(just low voltage)
but Larry had issues all day with the alt and was

For some reason the truck went on the stands after they unhooked the trailer. They never put wheelie bars on the truck it just sputter off the line and went down the track.

The rest of the Gebhardt crew showed up just as late and scrambled to get to the staging lanes just to run one pass. It was just amazing to see them show up as most were starting to leave.

If you have never been to a Drag Week event it is well worth the price of admission! The level of effort the racers put out is amazing! The amount of stuff that is stuffed into a trunk and gutted when they race is almost comical.

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/12/14 04:52 AM

What happened to Larson at Thunder Valley was that it broke the gear vendors unit when he turned the button loose. Electrical problems caused them to be late, but the trans was what prevented a decent pass.

Today at Great Bend he was there early, but it was misting rain and track was sketchy most of the day. He looked like he was on a decent hit and it rattled the tires about 200ft out and he lifted. After that he concentrated on helping his buddy Doug Cline who has a chance to win the thing. He and Lutz are within 4 or 5 numbers on average for overall. Doug has been in the 6s at every track but Lutz has a bit quicker average.

Eddie is racing on his street tune, 1.2 ratio rockers and all. He has his class in the bag again and just wants to get back to Tulsa.........smart move.

The weather has been BRUTALLY hot until today at Great Bend, where it was pretty cool with decent air..........but track wasn't good until late when it dried up and sun came out.

Tulsa will be good as far as track prep..........Unsure on weather at this point

That 4.5 hour trip is for a NORMAL car on NORMAL quickest route. These cars are slow on the road, have to stop for fuel OFTEN and have a less than direct route. That 4.5 for you and me, usually ends up closer to 7 or 8 for these guys.

I left Great Bend at 4:30ish and got to my hotel at 9:00. A friend in a 9 sec car with an overdrive left more than two hours ahead of me and we arrived together. He can run 70 or so. Some of the Unlimited cars have to run around 60 or less at times............so its a LONG drive for them.

Hey Monte..

Spill it on the new Holley dash that Kevin Studaker has in his wagon..

When will these be available and are they like a racepak.??

That Dash did look awesome, a little slow on the refreshing but that could of been video recording a screen. I think I remember them saying it could be plugged into most the Holley EFI systems. A few different shaped screens from holley would be nice, to fit in dashes.

Excited for today's action, everyone should be turning it up a bit in a last ditch effort to make the average better. Monte will be even busier filling nitrous bottles

They are currently replaying the last hour of yesterday. I somehow managed last night to have day 4 up and running but went to bed with an hour left in the play. So this is good for me.

Just not a good year for Mike Crow.He replaced his beater Ford Ranger with a Dodge Dakota.6 hours after he bought it he was hit by an uninsured driver.Good"small" motor breaks on its 3rd pass. The "Big" motor was actually going to go into his Cuda.First pass with the big one he forgot that motor needed all 5 gears not just 4 like the Lil motor.2nd pass he hit the limiter on 3 gear changes.3rd pass wasn't any prettier. The deer took out the left front corner, grille, and tweaked the core support.Bumper never moved.Main thing is he and Vickie are fine.He has the parts to fix it as far as I know.Clark(Bad340fish) has been having a relatively good week so far.I talked to Billy on Sunday and he said he hates his brothers.LOL. By Wednesday They were all talking to one another. LOL.

Watching the live feed on Youtube, I just saw the Larsen truck do a 4.00 at 188 mph in the 1/8 and then pull the chutes just after the 1/8 mile mark and go through the traps at 138 or something like that. Maybe it's a dumb question but why are they pulling the chutes before the end of the quarter.

Larrys pass was to get 1/8 mile info.Truck doesn't have very many full passes on it.Hes shooting for 6.39 or quicker.Hes running in the Shootout this afternoon.Im impressed with Doug Cline running 6s all week and also Joe Barry getting into the 6s.

A buddy was talking to Larry last night and he
was talking about the price tag and said it is gonna
try for a 5.70 today

219mph with the chutes out. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 5.9x next hit if the track will hold it.

4.04@187 in the 1/8th.

Heard on the feed that they (Larson) basically want to put the ET record so far out there that nobody else will be able to touch it.

From what I understand, that truck was largely financed by sponsors that Bangshift Chad acquired, but I have no confirmation on that.

Funny you should say that. Remember my son's Dart? Here's the latest version. He's talking about building a Gen 3 Hemi for it with a hair dryer. It's also now a 5 speed w/Dana 60. Must be nice

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/14/14 05:40 AM

That would be a cool combo Matt.... i can't imagine mine would make it without being a pita.... but my iron head 360 would fit the bill, just to get my feet wet anyways.

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/15/14 01:19 AM

I thought drag week was great, I spent way to much time at my computer watching it. But, that was a cluster at the end. Heads up racing 10 second cars against 8 second cars, they should have had a bracket race. I noticed a lot of racers didn't even show up for the race even though they had a spot. That was a waste.

Re: For The Guys That Follow Drag Week - 09/15/14 02:20 AM

IIRC they had around 90 enter. Not a bad turnout to me.Some had left it all on the table earlier in the day trying to win class or get their best e.t for the week. Many had a long drive home and left.Rachael G. went some rounds running 11s.After the week some don't even want to look at their cars for a few weeks.LOL.

They had a bracket race for the daily drivers Friday night. This was something new and the two finalists were an 8.60 car and a 9.0 car. Plus an 11 sec car made it down to 6 cars..........Anything thing can happen and did
