Pro Stock results...where are they? - 09/02/14 06:57 PM

I didn't see them posted here... Dodges must not have done well. Guess I can go to NHRA to find out!

2 down in first round, last one done in two.... other than that it was some dang good racing to watch. Jason L had the car to beat, and was sent packin. I hadn't watched a race pretty much all year, but the heat, and boredom set in so I pretty much watched every televised moment of the race this weekend. It was interesting..... they interviewed ALOT of different teams. We didn't have to know what Force was eating at his hospitality area, what color the poo was in Ashley's babies diaper. The banter about Garlits shaving got a little old.... but I usually got up and grabbed another beer when that came up again, and again, and again.... damn, surprised I got out of bed this morning!

I was posting Pro Stock qualifying results almost every week and TV and ESPN3 coverage but there seems to be a lack of interest in it anymore on this site so I backed off. Between you and I think the new cars they are racing now or the lack of Jim Yates on the team they are struggling to put the power to the track.

I went down on Friday for the Hemi Challenge and saw the first rounds of pro and the Dodges are behind now it appears. Allen Johnson admitted in Denver that the Camaros are catching up with them. Well from what I saw in Indy, they have caught and passed them. Jeg appears to be getting pretty frustrated at the lack of horsepower, as he stated quite a few times during qualifications and his loss in the Brainerd final at Indy. They've lost the edge, at least for now. I believe that's why he has red lit allot this year so far. Trying to push the tree to make up for it.

, It looks like the horsepower pendulum is swinging back to GM.

I think they have won 5 races plus a few runner ups...

so I would not write them off yet...LOL

I don't think anyone's writing them off, the numbers don't lie. The Camaros have won the last four events and have a 12-6 advantage in wins and RU.

And the GM usually has 12 of the 16 cars in the show...so the odds are in their favor.

I don't think it's just Horsepower, to my eyes the '14 Camaros look a good bit swoopier (less frontal area) compared to the 13's, I think NHRA has also been loosening up the GM aero rules a bit.....

I still contend that (since they're all based in around Mooresville, NC) the Grays, Cagnazzis and Anderson/Line cars have all been (in one way or another) sharing technologies....since they've all picked up quite a bit since the first of the year. Losing Nobile to GM has hurt them too, less laps on a J&J motor to share data and Vincent is a heck of a leaver. (Far more consistent than V)

All the Mooresville boys will certainly have "home field advantage" at Zmax in Charlotte next week.

I think were Jim helped the most was with consistency. It seems like Mark is always trying to hit home runs which is great when he's right but when he's wrong, the car never recovers. Almost every recent loss that Allen has had, has been due to broken runs on a missed tune up. The car is just less forgiving than it used to be. I don't know what Jim's salary was, but I would look to hire him back next year. Hopefully Mark gets a handle on thing for the start of the countdown for both cars. The focus needs to be on consistency and equal performance on raceday.

They need to hire Mike Edwards.

I would agree with the sharing of technology. I thought Johnny Gray was going to give Anderson a big hug when he missed the count down.

Just a few observations here...
Went to Indy Sunday, happy to say I have going there for 40 years now. Love drag racing, and have supported Mopar through thick and thin.
That being said, I agree with several of the opinions stated here. There does appear to be a changing of the guard again in Pro Stock. Have seen this many times over the years, as one team or driver seems to dominate for a period of time. Unfortunately, it appears the Jason Line has figured it out again, winning 3 races in a row and taking over the points lead. Sources say that Mike Edwards has been lending a hand with the Summit Team. Might be true, as Jason was the only car in the 6.50"s all weekend. He put it to Jeggie in the rained-out Brainard final Sunday afternoon.
Yes, Jeggie does appear to be frustrated with the lackluster performance of his car and pushing the tree, evident by the numerous red-lights this year, and only qualifying 13th I believe at Indy.
After winning back to back Championships, it's unclear to me why Jim Yates left the team. This year, they seem to be behind in performance and have been rattling the tires a lot on race day, something that happened a lot before Yates was with the team. They also aren't qualifying in the top 2 or 3 each round and snagging all of the bonus points.
I spent some time in Aj's pit Sunday, and at one point heard Roy telling a couple of fans ( I think ) that they weren't performing very well and really needed a tune-up man......
As a Mopar fan, Monday was painful to watch. Especially V. Gaines cutting a perfect light but still losing, and Jeggie red-lighting by .003.
On a final note, I wonder what Erica and her team feel now about sitting out the Western Swing. The pressure is all on her to get back in it..

They need to hire someone to tune the suspension. Ever since they got rid of Jim Yates they are back to rattling the tires. That was their problem before they hired him and they won 2 championships with him plain and simple!

Isn't Jim Yates out of a job. He was with Mcgaha I believe for a while but he let Yates go.

Might be the right time to hire him back...during the countdown..

plus Matt Hartford is now using Roy Johnson HP...getting a third car to run would not hurt.

Yep. McGaha hired Lump Self to replace Yates and it hasn't helped.

Easy to arm chair quarterback, but I would think a call to Mr. Yates would really benefit Team Mopar.

I don't recall why Yates left J&J. More money elsewhere?

It was a financial decision. Vincent's teams income was used to pay Jim's salary, so when Vincent left the team, they took Jim's salary with them. I would bet that J&J felt they didn't need Jim to succeed and with costs on the rise, they probably just felt they could use the funds elsewhere.
