Lots of good reasons to be racing a truck. Among them is the fact that it has a frame and no torsion bars to interfere with header design and more room for bigger rear tires without excessive body work. Definitely a step in the right direction

Not sure on weight. The truck hasn't been on the scales in recent times but 3200# ish from what I was told.

Interior is basically non exsistent, the shell of the stock dash, Lexan and other lightening tricks, full blown race truck. So while not a feather weight, its lighter than most. It has a Carbon Fiber hood that was made by mopar and i'm told is one of very few in exsistence.

It will probably be a little more than 3200 with my R3 block compared to when it had a stock block. My dart is probably the heaviest A body in exsistence, so its still a step in the right direction.

Ted, My motor thinks its a big block because it's the size of one, just needs some W9's and it should go deep into the 9's.

I think my 512 would put your truck into the nines! My old B is a tad over 3600# with the driver and has gone 10.15 @ 131 on a mild tune! That still is a sharp truck! Would be an awesome street machine!

It would have to be a stripped down Dakota to be that light because a stock one is around 3,800 lbs.

Engine and trans is whats in my Dart now 454" small block and 727, has pushed that 3500# car to 10.28@129

Yes, Shane still has the truck. Shane is my cousin. I helped him and his Dad Don build the truck. When it was new we set the record so many times we joked that we were just going to put a zipper on it to make tear down easier...

Very cool! I was wondering if he still had it or not. I know he tried to sell it a few different times. I wouldn't be looking to build anything to set a record, just fast enough to qualify, reliable and competitive.

That would be one of the benefits of the truck, very few heads up races to avoid here in D6.

Yes, the trucks are great class cars.. er trucks.... you really are the master of your own destiny... not alot of heads up races, you can really lean on it if you need to but be careful because you will get hit with horsepower for all of your hard work... but that's class racing.. The trucks are really cool though. Another option is to run it in SS/TA, B, C, D...
If you have a W? Head you certainly can, alot faster, better parts, just spend money. Oh and never have to tear down... lots of advantages to those combos too...

454" smallblock? Wow. I haven't been on this board much in the last 5 years since my second son was born. Car parts took a backseat for awhile.
But I remember your car from back at pinks all out when we were there, loved that car.

On the Wallace Racing web sight calculators it said going from 3500 lbs , 10.28 @ 129 to 3200 lbs would run 9.98 @ 132.91 mph. I do not know how accurate that is.

Thanks everyone, Dart might not be going anywhere... we'll see. Might have to put a small motor in it again and drive it more often. It works too well to give it away, won $1100 in it this weekend alone!

was interested in the front suspension since the dakota had 6 bolt wheels, i would say the spindles and hubs have been changed to something else

Mine scaled 3292 without me when it still had the stock steering column, dash and all the EFI wire harness, it's probably closer to 3150 now.

Mine runs low 11's up here at 7000' all motor, fans love it...Fast trucks are cool.

How soon till you start racing with it? or have you already dropped your combo in and got out?

Truck is in my possession but it might be a month or two before the drive train swap occurs. Currently in the thick of the season and plan to keep the dart together for some big money races and ET finals. Assuming i'm not headed to Pomona i'll pull the car apart then, freshen the motor and drop it in the truck.

I'll put it on 4 wheel scales as well to get an accurate weight number.

I think Don Studley built the truck. Don was a good guy. He did the heads for my stocker years ago.

Are you really sure you want to run NHRA SS? The reason I'm bringing it up is the rules, politics, tech. details and rulles, instant HP factoring if you run fast and all the other stuff you have to deal with when running any kind of a class car in NHRA racing Not tryingto deter, hopefully you already have some insight on NHRA Division and National event racing Either way I know you will try to excell in any endeavor When does the season start at Pacific and Bremerton?

Super stock may or may not happen. For now I'll bracket race it and dabble in some super street as my schedule allows.

Pacific has yet to release a schedule. I believe Bremerton starts sometime in March.

I would bet that there is more than one or two racers that hope you don't run in SS-it's bad enough that Jody beats them up all the time, then throw in another hitter, poor guys will be having jammers

Factory Frame rails with the C notch so it can sit low. Mini tubbed. The piece above the housing is removable.
