6 pak manifold - 07/17/14 05:46 AM

Is there a better manifold than the factory
How much further is needed my red Holley pump will not keep up
Looking to turn 7 to 7500 out of my new block
Carbs and heads are done

The manifold shown in the 2nd set of pics is your best bet. I built a Super Stock 440 with it and it ran quite well. Can't remember where, but one corner wanted a jet way different than the others. A sheet manifold was tried, but the Weiand made more average hp.

Re: 6 pak manifold - 07/17/14 06:32 PM

I built a 512 C.I. low deck stroker motor several years ago that used a stock type Eddy low deck 6 pak intake and modified 440 carbs., the motor made peak HP(612) at 5600 RPM and made peak torque at 4500(644 ft.lbs)RPM on a DTS engine dyno. I ran that motor in my Street and strip Duster that ran as fast as 10.34 at 134.+ MPH with the six pak on pump gas through the exhuast system and air cleaner on I did a bunch of testing on that car and ended up finding out that the motor like to be shifted at or above 7000 RPM to make the car run its fastest ET and MPH My message is the stock unmodified Eddy dual plane six pak intakes and stock type carbs, jetted to perfection, will make power well above the RPM that they make the most power on a dyno More air and fuel, more power

Indy cylinder Head makes the ModMan intake. Interchangeable tops. Has shown decent HP improvements over a stock 6-pak.

Quote from some famous race car driver guy: "That is bad ass!!!!! That is the best intake there is."

I have that intake with the same "jet" size in all eight ports and about 1900cfm of throttle blade.

Ari ,
they look great especially the Weiand . Which manifold runs best , Weiand or Modman ?
What cubes and RPM are you pulling ?
Have you tried stuffing the Modman ?
thanks,

Tex

The Weiand runner length is optimized for the 440, it was specifically designed with the 440 in mind. A bigger engine would have the torque peak at a lower RPM with that runner length.

A bigger engine may like the mod man intake better and you could run it with max wedge port sizes.

Ari,
thanks again
Michael ,
that's what I thought re the Modman . I have a dual quad Modman (stock port)that wasn't quite right for my 450ciRB but should work nice on top of a stroker

Anybody try one w/ Stage VI heads? does the extra 3/4" make a difference? (talking Stock stroke 440 and small solid roller cam)

Ari, sixpackgut, do either of you have or have you seen an actual dyno plot for a good running 440 with one of these intakes. Over the years I have heard discussion, seen timeslips, and read how they have more torque than pretty much all other options for the 440. From what I can gather I would expect the peak to be just at or over 4500rpm. But that is all I have is second or third hand qualitative information.

I did read this article:
http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techa...formance_parts/

But a few issues. Some old "dyno mule" with 10:1 and a set of SR heads. A random camshaft with the wrong rocker ratio, parts from "around the shop" and limited time to sort things out. So, not exactly a stellar example. I would expect you would want closer to 11:1 with aluminum heads to start with...

Dyno plot:

What seems a little off to me, other than the torque number is a little on the low side, is that the torque is dropping off fast over 4500rpm and every other engine in this competition does not start falling off until over 5500rpm.
