Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/14/14 07:11 PM

My friend who I`m going into business with( ) had a trans built for his F-350 and let`s just say it went VERY bad and am waiting on more info before I let er rip. He landed in Arizona barely limping in and is awaiting a call back after it blew 2 TIMES............

Dont know about that trans shop. I do know on the fords that the tranny is controlled by the BCM i think or other name for it computer. You can have a brand new tranny destroyed by a malfunctioning computer. Sometimes Both need changed together.

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/15/14 05:13 AM

I havent heard of them either. Like Mopar65, they are just up the road from me. I have my own shop and do complete auto repair and gas and diesel performance stuff. None of my customers have ever mentioned them good or bad. I also know quite a few truck pullers, racers, etc... in the area with no mention of them. If they were any good I dont know how I would not have heard of them.

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/15/14 06:15 AM

Thankxxx.............I would of sent my friend to ya if I would of known. Well, maybe this will warn others; My friend left Ohio pullin a 57ft. trailer loaded pretty good, pulled up a steep drive at a motel to spend the night and the trans started making noises and puking fluid from the bell housing. He call TransMasters and they quote him $2800 to rebuild the trans and for an extra $800.00 for a billet vert which he agrees to. Two days later they tell him it`s ready so he goes to the shop, asks to see the parts which they couldn`t produce or the old vert which sent a red flag a sailin. They said they dynoed it and threw the parts away. Now I don`t know about you guys but I ALWAYS show a new customer their old parts as a way of establishing trust so that`s TWO red flags. Anyhow, he hooks up the trailer and heads on his merry way towards Arizona only now it`s overheating and the tach`s bouncing up and down(which it never did either before)so he calls the owner and he picks up the truck and drives it back to the shop to install a cooler, flush the fluid and no charge. He enters Arizona 3-days later and it`s shot as in no go nowhere. I said from the gate that the cooler was a "bandaid" and that it wasn`t built right OR at all. So this is my warning to others about TransMasters and if they don`t make it right well it may end poorly.......... I work hard, am honest and make it right wen I do screw up as we all should but this is bad and maybe THAT`s why you guys havn`t heard of em............Rant over............

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/15/14 05:33 PM

That is terrible. I agree with the two red flags. Boy that makes it tough now that hes a couple states away. Even if he has to sue its going to be tough, because you have to file it in that state and county.

Has there been a response from them on this yet on the last breakdown?

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/15/14 05:41 PM

No response yet and the complaints on his shop are very similar and what makes it worse is it looks like it puked a head gasket or cracked somewhere allowing coolant oil in the coolant. Diesel motor mind you and one of the complaints againtsed them had the same blown motor...........I mentioned the law suit but like my friend said, he`s only a plane ticket away. We`ll soon see..........

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/15/14 06:06 PM

Dont know what year the F350 is, but there was a class action suit or recall on some model years with the 5.9 or 6.2 diesels. The head bolts would stretch and cause the gaskets to leak.

My buddy found this out while on a out of state boating trip. $4200 later he was back on the road. Hose the out of stater!!

He checked into it when he got home and Ford did Reimburse him for the whole amount. It took him a year or so to get the money.

Boy, thats another hit for your buddy. Even if Ford does cover the head gaskets and new Arp bolts thats part of the fix.

Not trying to start WW3 here, but you said it was a 350 pulling a 57 ft trailer, exactly how much weight was he pulling and how many miles on the truck before the meltdown?

Just curious, that's all. And certainly not implying anything.

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/16/14 01:16 AM

Yeah dealing with a bad shop sucks. hope it gets worked out, but as far as them not saving the old parts goes that's not a huge red flag.

I ran a transmission shop for a long time we averaged rebuilding 15-20 units a week so if you didn't ask me to save the old parts I didn't.

If I had saved all those parts until people decided to come get there cars I would have a shop full of garbage.

Also all the reman converters are sold exchange and when the converter company left the remans they wanted to pick up there cores so you would have to inform me you wanted to see them so I could hold them back.

That being said I always asked the customer if they would like to come and look at there unit after it was disassembled for inspection so I could show them what was wrong with there unit.

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/16/14 02:27 AM

The trailer wasn`t maxed out and the trans guy even said "no problem" and recommended the billet vert to help he also said he`d warranty it but nothing yet. I guess if you blow out several trans a month no need to save parts it`s just something I have done myself. It has 130,000 miles on it and until the trans was built it never had any of these issues and my friend`s a truck driver by trade. The thing that gets me the most is no more than 20 miles from the shop heading out my way he has trans overheating and skipping issues. Then the guy installs a cooler to "bandaid" the problem and apparently it`s in a shop in Kingman Az right now and the tech said somethings VERY wrong about all of this. Just hate to see people get screwed and there`s way more to the story about gettin his trailer to him but all in all about $8,000 later it where it`s at right now...........

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/16/14 03:06 AM

Yes, 20 miles is a indicator of something very wrong. FWIW, the shops around here wont even offer a warranty unless you use a new Cooler or have your current one cleaned out with a special pulse/pressure type flush system.

Jasper being at the top, I dont think they will even allow you to use your existing cooler for fear of scapnel. You need thier $250 cooler if I read thier warranty right.

I wasn`t clear on my last post...........he was NOT towing the trailer back when it let go in Arizona so pretty much says it all.

Paid cash but as of now the Az. shop is shipping the trans back to him for a complete rebuild (maybe for the 1st. time )then the Az. shop does the install, road test etc. Whatta wanna bet it works like it should when he gets his truck back............

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/16/14 04:55 AM

The 7.3 had some issues , but not as bad as the 6.0 The 6.0 were the engines that were covered I guess 04 to 07 Some say the 7.3,s were the most reliable, but that was from the era 6.0,s were doing so bad. Thats not going to help your buddy.

Re: TRANS QUESTION (SHOP)..................... - 07/16/14 05:04 AM

7.3 appreciated coolant system services. If you didn't, it would often rot out the head gasket toward the rear bank of either cylinder. I do remember that one. It was also a common trans failure when the fluid would puke from the front seal, but for the life of me can't remember what that one often led to.

Truck was serviced and everything was done; Oil n filter, trans service, rear end fluid, brakes and coolant flush but things happen and hopefully we`ll see soon.
