4.30's or bust radial sb w8 dart build - 07/07/14 06:05 PM

I am starting with this junk

As many know i run a 302 based sbf 88mm turbo in the dart now for x275. Well after about 4 years of punishment we broke the block. So i want to run in outlaw class now but with a w8 mopar motor.
plan is for a 440ci with a single 118.

Motor and tuning will be by Harrell engine and dyno and with out them i would still be running 7:50s in the 1/8.

Most fab work will be Customs by Bigun and you need to look up Harrell Engine and Customs by bigun on facebook they are great.

Another big part of build is Brett Miller he sent heads to Pete to look at in 1 day after talking with him. He also has really helped me with finding parts and learning about the sb mopar.

I have also bugged the heck out of Marty P., Jason D., and Stephen D. and others about the build. And I am glad I have good friends in racing because I really suck at golf.

Just got the heads in from Brett sorry for bad pic.

Ordering tall deck block today. will post more as build goes on hope to be at SGMP in feb

Good luck with the build and making your goals. You will need some serious power to run down at the 4.30s level. Ask Monte Smith how much as he is involved with a 4.30 DR car here. Doing it on a motor 1/2 the size will be tough. Are you planning to run a 315 or a 275?

I know it is not easy but it's not out of reach.

With a 440 ci and a 118 turbo.. you'll have all the
power you want/need... just a matter of getting it
to the ground... but with the digital boxes that shouldnt
be a major problem.. just time to figure it out...

Going to need to make around 2000 HP to get there . I just can see that platform staying together long enough to make it feasible or race able .
Plowing your own road is not for the faint of heart, cross your fingers .

I for one am glad to see Chad going with this combo. I gave up on my old turbo R3/W8, Outlaw 10.5 Barracuda before I saw it's potential. We ran some 4.70's @ 3000lbs. but Big Stuff 3 kicked my ass, lol. At the lighter X275 weight and with Brett Miller involved and Pete Harrell tuning it will be a beast. I look forward to following the build and seeing it run.

No not at all,what im saying is with his team(tuner) and builder he'll be able to make 2000hp and get down with the small tire.It's done with a shortdeck conv headed bb chevy and a cast intake,why not w a monster turbo .:)

Not easy to do. I would like to say I know exactly what I am doing but I don't. For the most part I rely on Pete to choose the combo for the et I want. I talked with Brett and he sent Pete the heads and between their conversation Pete said it will work with the et I want.
2000 will not cut it. My old motor was a 302 based sbf with brodix Neal heads is made 1980 with a 88mm.

We ran it with the billet 98 which should be 2-300 above the 88.
So with the 118 it should be ahead of that even more.

The plan is to run some x275 races with the 88 then switch to outlaw 275 trim with the 118.

Most people on here know Brett who is a great guy and big help on this build.
Pete is from HED who Kevin Mullins works for who has one of the fastest radial cars and out of that shop has come brad Edwards, Ziff Hudson who had fastest single turbo radial car with a 4:31 as well as the fastest f1r car of mike freeman, as well as others like tommy kirik and Jamie hacking and many more.
I am so thankful for the help from guys on here like brad who drove 1/2 the night to pick up a block for me because the guy would not ship.

So all in all time will tell if this works and I think it will

Sorry for long post I had hoped things would be further along than they are but that is the joy of sbm!
Waiting on billet crank and parts for motor along with machining.

Main change is I have decided to not run x275 anymore. With kids in sports and other things I can not justify trying to test and run 2 classes. So most x275 races here have turned to outlaw 275 and I have decided that is what I will build the car for. I have taken 450lbs of lead and intercooler and pipe out of the car. I am going to still do a single turbo but it will now be on alky!

Well I have changed plans on car. We were building for outlaw 275 because that was what most races close to me are. That class had got out of hand so I will be building for x275. I am now going with a smaller motor so I sold the stuff I have and have bought new heads and bare aluminum block.
I need help finding another cross bolted aluminum block and I need gear drives. I also need a new crank

That's really cool and rare to see. I don't know a lot about those blocks other than outlaw spirit guys ran them (any chance you know Tony Stewart?) So you may get lucky on a dirt or circle track forum. Recently there was one for sale in pieces in Ohio. That's all the more help I can be I'm afraid but at the very least..

and front cover... bummer.. but if I still had it I
would most likely be using it

I have an A8 sprint car block , but I think he is looking for the A8 touring block, as he mentioned " cross bolted mains".
