Best place to get a new 727 trans? - 06/09/14 01:10 AM

Hey guys imn looking to replace the 727 trans in my 66 coronet. The one in it has issues on top of the fact it has done nothing but leak for the 232 years ive had it. Had it rebuilt a few times over the years and had it looked at numerous times for the leaking. nobody can seem to figure it out and im sick of it. Dont know if the case is cracked or what but im done. I want to buy a brand new trans for it. i want a reverse manual valve body because i do race it. What or who do you guys recomend? Tired of dealing with old used junk. Anyone?..Thanks.Joe

Transact of Indy.
Ask for Joe.
Best customer service, easy to talk to and his transmissions are fantastic.
I just picked one up from him for my son's car.
I shopped around and he's got the price price comparing apples to apples.

A&A Transmission

Rick manufactures most of the high performance transmission parts that all the other trans builders use.

when you have the trans out, air check your conv for
leaks.. you would be pissed if it still leaks with
another trans

leak could be coming from a bolt lug or the pump hub weld.

I have bought parts from both COPE & Trans Act of Indy, both are excellent.

I do wish them made an after market case that uses a JW bell though. Somthing that would be a lot better machined and stronger than OEM...Seems like they make every other case out there but a 727...

I do highly recomend a severe duty bolt in sprag. Well worth there weight.

I was in your exact same place, my 727 was rebuilt by everyone in my neighborhood including me.

I'd get one from someplace close to your home. Don't konw what part of Ill you live in, I'd recommend Coan Trans In Kokomo, Ind.

I have done quit a bit of business with them. Bought powerglide parts from them for years and 2 727s. I also raced with Jason Coan and his Dad.

I have had like 3 727s rebuild by neighborhood shops and non of them ever performed like my 2 Coan 727s from Coan. And it's been 7 years now on one trans. It shifts just as firm today as the day it was new, quite a bargain, imo. The matching convertors help a ton.

I drove up there and dropped off my core and picked up a fresh 727 and matching convertor for my motor. It really made a difference in both my cars. Matching convertors and the trans shifts great with a bark. Craig gave me a pretty complete tour of the shop and everyone was really nice. There stuff works.

Price was reasonable too at 650 bucks 7 years ago for the trans with a core. I forget what the torque convertor cost, but get them to make you one, so worth it. The trans in my 340 car is even older than 7 years, more like 10-11 years and I drive it the most. Think I paid 600 10 years ago for my first one that is still kicking azz tonight.

Has been a awesome transmission.

Another vote for Cope.My kid has one from him.It was about 2300 with convertor and lots of bells and whistles.John sold him what he needed and convertor matched to it.Been in about 10 or 12 years and still like new.My kid has beat it hard.He even freshens them IIRc for a year free.Just send it back and he ships it back to you.Rocky

I was told I could get a 904 with a pro tree brake from PTC for around $1400.00 but I have not talked to Kenny yet. Most people don't know that he is doing transmissions as well as convertors.

Kenny's boys at PTC hooked me up with my 904. Cope hung up on me when I told him what I wanted to do.

But then again PTC is close by so I don't have to deal with shipping.

Race car I will send my 727 back up to Tranzact and let John Chrisman get back into it.
