You're probably going to turn too many RPM for a typical aggressive hydraulic to keep control of the valve train. Pitch the hydraulic cam and put a properly sized solid in there.

The old Mopar .590 cam always worked good for a car like that. But you could get a more modern design solid with similar specs.

I have a very similar motor, 440+.030 Speed Pro six pak pistons with 9.46 to 1 comp. ratio, LY rods, stock stroke Mopar OEM steel crankshaft, ported 906 heads with 2:14 intake valves, 1.81 exhaust, flow 270 CFM at .600 lift at 28 inches on a Superflow 600 bench(not as good as a set of heads as yours are), RAS 1.6 ductile iron rockers, Comp Cams Extreme Energy Hi Lift hyd. cam, 285 advertised int., 297 adv. EX with .545 lift w/1.5 rockers advertised. the intake is a Eddy Performer RPM with a Holley 950 HP.The motor made 512 HP and 544 FT. lbs on pump gas, it ran a best so far of 11:41 at around 118. mph in my 3400 lb. Duster(with me in it) with the exhaust and air cleaner on, 4;30 gears and 30 inch tall 13.50x30x15 M/T ET Street tires, 10 inch Contintental converter. I didn't get a chance to tune the motor as the oil pump bypass plug and valve came out on the second run I have had a bunch of 440 motors in different race and street cars, all of them liked bigger carbs and none of them like the Torker 2 intake manifold. See if you can get a M1 single plane intake or a Eddy Performer RPM intake and look around for a 850 DP or a 950 HP, both will work better at the track than the 750 will Or better yet use what you have now and go see how fast you can make it run with those parts and then see if you need to try and step it up with other parts experience is one of the best teachers out there, and you can have some fun learning along the way

True but it can be costly also

Re: critique my setup - 12/31/08 01:01 AM

Not bad but I'd opt for another intake manifold like hte M1 or a ported Street Dominator.

I ran 6.90's in the 1/8th with a 451" low deck Duster running a very similar Lunati 240/250@.050 .520/.547 I shifted about 6300 with 3.91 gears.....those lunati Race Hydraulics have nice lobes, If it's similar ot the old one I doubt you'd really be giving up much to a solid with mild heads even with the steep-ish gears

I am assuming this is a strip only deal but is that converter stall a bit too high for this cam?Seems like it would be on the converter too much.

Re: critique my setup - 12/31/08 02:33 PM

too much converter, like mentioned bigger carb and probably more cam. 557 or 590 solid would get you there.
