DART VS VETTE..................................... - 05/05/14 11:08 AM

Now I`m awake.................The results are on page two of my original post but here goes. We show up early and I do some test hits, he shows up late after doing the same but lies about it, he tries to play me on the starting line he gets a good jump, I grab 2nd and catch him, I grab 3rd I`m passing him and then..........POOF he`s gone in my rear view mirror and sez he spun and I get the win..........AGAIN! I won $500.00 and will give him a rematch on MY terms for $1,000 and up and again for those cool and supportive folks thankxxxx for the others...............Always bet on purple.

Also w/all of my carb mods, I have a damn near linear fuel curve. Stabbed the gas, went to 11.8 because of squirter then leveled off at 12.9.............nice and smooth.

First of all...congrats, but do yourself a favor and take the money and run. I ran a blown car once, had him covered by 6 carlengths and he came around me at the very end for a .0034 MOV. The cool thing was that he thought I got him, proceded to drive directly on the trailer and just sat there all stonefaced until I told him he got me.

Re: DART VS VETTE..................................... - 05/06/14 04:39 PM

Congrats! But somethig doesn't sound right. I say he's sandbagging. If it were me, I'd want at least a length since he's agreed to your terms. The reason is simple:
No sane, experienced streetracer is going to invest in a blown 'vette, lose, then say he'll race you another time on YOUR terms. It's easy to miss a shift and/or smoke the tires all under the excuse of being "excited" or "poor traction". My guess is he was sandbagging, is going to do some mods & try to get some intel on your set-up & e.t. & set his car & the race based on that.

OH, I don't mean your car! The whole missed shift thing & him sooo willing for a re-match on your terms . and for MORE money??
I'm not saying: "Don't do it!", I'm just saying do a little more intel gathering & plan accordingly. ...Sounds like a good race, though....

This is basically what I was going to say. But you have $500. Buy a good N20 system. Put the bottle in the trunk.
At least a 250hp shot. If he leaves you at the line hit the button.
If he had you before claiming to miss a shift he will beat you next time.

Why would he be sandbagging? Race for $500 and lose and race again for $1000 and win. You still only net $500. Why wouldn't he just win the first one and walk away?
I'm no investment specialist but I think the net is the same with double the risk. Lol

http://imageshack.com/a/img824/959/0t29.jpg I hope I done this right it will not let me post the picture says they are too Big! My stock looking very streetable Calloway Corvette makes over a 1,000 RWH on the chassis dyno @ South Georgia MotorSports Park(SGMSP) the race put on by Venegance Racing with Nitto NTO5 P305/35 R19 DOT Drag Radials it run 9:38-9:42 in the 1/4 mile with 3:42 gears.Leaving the line @ 3500(if you spin the DOT Drag Radials there is no such thing as getting them to Hook back up) and granny shifting it,you won't miss a gear or break anything shifting like that. The owners manual say it weights 3200 lbs and I drove it the 125 miles one way to and from the race, the only thing I done was lower the rear tires from 28-18 lbs.
At that speed I was a middle of the pack @ best runner, remember these are street legal insured cars. They had some heavy weight CTS (or something like that)Super-Charged Cadillac's running 9:80's-9:90's nothing deleted they had everything that come from the factory other than DOT Drag Radials.
But to run these speeds like any other car you have to have not just the parts but they have to work well together. And these Hi-Tech cars have to be tuned by what is called "Tuners"! Sounds like a joke buy its not.

Congrats Thumperdart,I may own one of these Hi-Tech Corvettes, but I'm still a Mopar man and was pulling for you to win the 1st time and will be pulling for you to win the next one.

There`s no doubt those things run and yours and others prove that but ya gotta get down the street. Rumor is that he`s installin an automatic so we`ll see how that pans out...........don`t care either way and I`m still tuning mine to perfection and I was a bit lean based on my plugs and 12.9 afr`s.

Keep him on rough gravel type roads & like before at night. The smoother the roads like the shiny black top roads & the Hotter the road & air the better the Drag-Radials will hook.I am not sure if go to a automatic will speed him up any, might stop him from missing gears. The 6-speed manual trans are geared as close to perfect as you can get for the Super-Charged cars and shift excellent, the only reason I can think of for the missed shift is it was hazing the tires and he tried to power shift it.That is why I granny shift mine and afraid I will break parts if I don't.My Corvette is a Calloway Corvette and has had over $10,000 worth of up grades since coming from Calloway and has a mild street friendly Tune up in it,there is more left.

PS I have always been a Grudge Racer and now we are Pro-Grudge Racers if there is such a thing. But we do it at the race-track and not with my Corvette. With that being said I have been killing all of the Mustangs & other street cars around here on the street with my Vette.
Being a Grudge Racer I do know you have the upper hand now,by making him make changes to his car.

We have a Viper,Camaro & Vega plus I will Grudge race either of my 2 Dragsters...my new one has a Hemi, don't have many takers on them. And have only one Rule,we will not race any of them on the street or a Bad track with no stopping distance.I myself prefer the Bracket Racing but my partners who have the $$$ like Big $$$ Run What You Brung Heads up Grudge racing and we do it for Big $$$ alone with a lot of other racers. The local 1/8 mile track(it used to be a NHRA & IHRA 1/4 mile track) has a Grudge Race once a month and thinking about having two.Two weeks ago they had over a 150 cars & bikes and over 4,000 spectators @ $20.00 a head. The Grudge Race brings in more cars & spectators than the T&T,Index Race & Bracket Race.We will be more than Happy to run some $10,000.00 and up Grudge Races,as well as many more.If you like racing against Mustangs for $$$ you can have a field day it seems like everybody has one,but don't think all are Ford powered.

PS I only told ThumperDart after the race what my Vette and some of the others would run to help him.I may have a Hi-$$$ Hi-Tech Vette but I am still a Mopar man and pulled for him against the Vette last time and will do so next time.

The key to these cars power is the power adder. An NA car is limited. If I would build a car just for speed it would be a twin turbo car. The shop that built my roll bar does a lot of wild Grudge race combos for guys that race down south on private drag strips. I forget the guys name that they build for but he was a professional foot ball player. They bet big money on these races. The wildest thing is seen them build was a 4 where atv. It had a modified crotch rocket engine with NOS on it. They said the ATV would run 8's in the quarter mile but their grudge races were 1/8th mile tracks.
I like Grudge racing much more than Bracket racing. I just never had an interest in bracket racing.

You need to move down here in the South it has gone Big Time. The Local Track known as the Fastest 1/8 mile Grudge Race Track in the South had there 1st Big Grudge Race of the year 2 weeks ago and had over 5,000 spectators, last near toward the end of the year it was around 2,000.They sold a little over 5,000 tickets, they thought they had a years worth of tickets and sold over 3/4 of them already. At 5,000 they closed the gates and still people climbed the gates and come in.
There where and this is not the 1st time from up North that come down here for the Grudge Race.

Duce is from SC, but played pro ball for the Eagles. I used to crew on a couple of grudge cars and his crowd was always at the big grudge races. A guy named Harry O from NY was driving the black "023" Camaro (Duce's car) back then...it was basically a "small" block pro mod. Big Sonny's motor that was supposed to be considered small block. That was back in 2006-2007 or so. There was Fazal's (spelling???) Malibu they called Money Green...supposed to be this killer stock suspension short deck BBC. I had enough of all that crap and got away from it. Don't keep up w/ the grudge game much anymore.

Re: DART VS VETTE..................................... - 05/14/14 11:20 PM

The grudge racing sounds like a blast.
They used to do that around here many years ago with quarter horses. Side money everywhere.
Many people didn't even own a horse but were putting big money down on their favorite.
The local NHRA track should do some of this maybe the could fill a couple of the seats in the stands. The stands are a ghost town for the weekly bracket races.

What track are you referring to??...Steele?...........I would have thought the title of "fastest grudge track" belonged to Holly Springs, as there are lots of grudge races there and most all the fast guys test there. Well, at least the fast radial guys test there, because the track is usually TOO good for slicks. Steele is a nice smooth track though and CAN be good depending on how much time Jason spends on prep.

The key to these cars power is the power adder. An NA car is limited. If I would build a car just for speed it would be a twin turbo car. Monte,I know you have been to this track, its Phenix City Dragway in Phenix City Al..Fred owns the track & Brain (butterbean)runs it with his help. There one a month Grudge Race has really brought out the Spectators in the last 2 -3 years. There is a bigger crowd of spectators now for the Grudge Races than it was when they used to run Big Events there. At the last Grudge Race 2 weeks ago there was over 5,000 people there and around 150 cars & bikes. They had to block off the entrance because they was no room left for any cars and there is more parking space on the spectator side now than back in the 70's when it was a big time track(or at least as a small kid it look big). There were cars lined up on both sides the road,on both sides the track entrance.Once a month they put on a 4.70,5.0 (I think they Voted to change that to 5.50) and 6.0 its a Free Race and Guaranteed Purse 4.70 $1500.00 5.0 $1,000.00 6.0 $700.00 and if a large number of cars in class they raise the Pay-Out I have seen him Pay the $1500.00 and had only 4 4.70 cars.
Monte the Grudge Racers bet each other the Track does not pay them a Purse but they BET Some Big $$$.
PS where is Holly Springs at I know where Steele is at nice track put on some good Bracket Races but did not know about the Grudge Races.

PS Sorry Thumperdart did not mean to take over your post, but Monte may want to come to a few races or let some of his customers know about the race.Always best to try and help the Local track keep going.

Yeah, been to Phenix City several times and they do draw big crowds..............just never considered that track very good from a prep standpoint.

Holly Springs is in MS, right outside Memphis on Hwy 78. Pretty much every small tire record there is has been set there.

And I have SEVERAL customers who are grudge racers..........they just don't tell anybody and we have to test in secret. Those guys are a hoot. All secret and crap.......LOL!!!

You have that Right, they do put a little more effort into the prep now but not near enough, they spay the starting line about 60'and drag the track with old tires. With what they do for us Racers I don't want to say anything bad about them but I would like to see them resurface the track then it would be nice.

PS they all run lots of NOS and when some purged the NOS they Fog the track.I used to not be a fan of NOS but since using it and seeing others use it,I'm a Big Fan of it now instant Horse-Power!
