Cam grind number?

Cam grind number? - 04/28/14 02:46 AM

I got a mystery cam from a friend that he pulled out of a built 360. I has the number 18z002 and the letters MP on the end. Is there anyway of knowing what it is?

No info on the numbers> But you can take a set of calipers and measure the base circle of the cam, then measure the total base with the entire lobes height. Subtract the base from the total and it will give you the lobe lift. Multiply that by 1.5 rocker ratio and that will give approximate lift. That will give you a idea of what you have. Measure it and post the numbers.

Got 1.570 on the lobe and 1.25 on the base circle so on a 1.5 ratio that should be around .480 right? Is there any way to check LSA?

Nope, unless you consider having it ran on a Cam Doctor for all the specs.

Well he could put it in a block with a crank and measure
the lobe spread

You can check the specs by installing it temporally in a spare block and taking measurements. Hook up a degree wheel on the crank and a dial indicator on first the intake lifter and then the exhaust lifter on the same cylinder. Note the degree for max lift on each lobe and subtract to find the lsa. You can also check over all duration and at .050 lift.
Good luck!
