Congrats!!!!

A build like that sure does take time but in the end it will all be worth it. You and your dad have put alot of hard work into it to get it to this point and the stance really looks great Keep plugging away and soon it will be track time

Looks great Chad!
I would agree on s&w cage kits. I just finished one in a Duster this evening. Although I did modify the a-pillar bars to fit better. I personally would rather have the full length a-pillar bar that goes to the main hoop with a windshield bar.
Can't wait to see it at the track. Beep

Thanks, quick. It's s 95 Dodge Avenger, bought it for 500 bucks off craigslist and started tearing it apart. Didn't know how to stick two pieces of metal together when I started about 3-4 years ago. I know its not $hit compared to some and there are a thousand things I'd do different now that I've built one. What a humbling experience lol. The tin work looks very nice !
I tend to agree on the door bar , but when you first get it to the track you might be able to play the " it's slower than 10.99 " card once or twice.

Re: Finally have the car on the ground... - 02/08/15 04:58 PM

I should also add the seat is adjustable and is in the farthest forward position in the pic. I'll be driving and so will my dad so we both sat where we were comfortable and made our door bar so it would pass thru the mid point of shoulder and elbow, then it goes down and protects my side and leg perfectly....I'd rather have this then a bolted in swing out bar. I'll be adding a tube from the mid point of the door bar down to the rocker, roll bar.

chassis cars arent bad at all.... on the door bars
its the bends that wont fly... try it for cert.. at
least you can cut them out fairly easy... I have a
bend in my side bars on the Rampage BUT I'm not gonna
cert it being its a 10.0 car.. I cant drive faster
than 10.0... I am still thinking of welding in a
angle tube from the bend down to the base of the main hoop

It is a perception thing and every tech guy I have had to work with has had their own interpretation on things.
But the bends are nowhere near as strong as a straight tube or X brace and it is going to raise an eyebrow.......I'd bet on it.
I am certainly not the final word on this , and it will definitely depend on the track and event where you are looking to run.
I might float it past your local tech inspector for an opinion before you get the interior done just to see how deep the water is.
You could probably email a pic to them.

cast 440, cast heads, 590 cam, ross pistons, m1 intake, and probably 850 carb, just to get the thing rolling. That motor motivated dads 72 Challenger to 10.50's before he took it out, so we're going to see how it does while I save up to build a 451....I think.

the bar has to fit the driver. with driver in seat and arms down it has to pass between the shoulder and elbow with no bends, if you are trying for an 8.50 cert which I would suggest you will need an X brace. build the bars as low as possible and it shouldn't be a problem getting in and out with a removable steering wheel. my arrow is smaller than yours and I can get my fat ass in and out pretty easy.

For strength purposes you would want it straight..
I have heard you can go up to 30*... but I wouldnt
bet on it... if you put a single bend in it and put
the brace tube in it will triangulate it.. thats the
magic word in chassis building... so if there is a
bend you need to reenforce the back of it to another
intersection point
Posted By: Quicktree

Re: Finally have the car on the ground... - 02/08/15 07:13 PM

I wouldn't put a bend in a serious race car, as fast as you may end up going it's just not safe imo. maybe you can see how low mine is.have your seat as low as possible. I didn't build this one but who ever did done a great job.

You can see here how the brace tube is... this as you
see it here certed to 7.50.. they changed the rules
3 years later and it only certed to 8.50.. it will cert
with a single bend IF it has the brace

My 8.50 cage had some bends in it. It was built a long time ago though.

Looks great so far Chad! That's gonna be a great car. Keep your eyes peeled for a stroker kit, my Duster motor is street only, but it's 500" just because I found someone selling a complete stroker kit brand new for $1500, it had an Eagle crank, Eagle Rods, JE flat top pistons. I used my stock main caps with a 440Source main girdle. I wanted alot of torque so I could run a tight converter and 3.55 gears.

Yes it is, but that's as low as we could get it. The frame rail is about 3/16away from the handle underneath the seat to slide it back and forth. Just thick bottoms, wanted kirkey seats but I won't have that much in the motor lol

I used my stock main caps with a 440Source main girdle. I wanted alot of torque so I could run a tight converter and 3.55 gears.

Thanks and will do. We have a few 440 and 400 blocks, thanks for the heads up. You gonna be back out this year?

No I kinda retired from racing, might get back into it when my son is done with schooling and travel sports. My Duster is almost done, already drove it several times. Just a 600HP street cruiser with no cage or tubs, pump gas with comfy seats lol.

That's really all of the good ones. No hood yet, putting the motor and trans in for good this weekend. Floor, trans tunnel and firewall after that

Dads idea to put tubs in to fit anything lol. You know in the name of going faster later down the road.
