Thanks everyone. Its just a 440, nothing special done to it. Going to be a street/bracket car.
Garage Art...thanks Bill, thinking about fabricating my own motor strap as well...whatcha think, want one? They come in yellow or orange nylon![]()

I tend to agree on the door bar , but when you first get it to the track you might be able to play the " it's slower than 10.99 " card once or twice.
Great read here......

You have not lived until you make a set of headers for that thing![]()

lol, I was looking at that yesterday. I think dad is going to donate a set of old headers we can chop up and kinda of make a template so to speak to bend tubes for the good ones. I'm not excited lol.

Thank you I guess I don't see where I went wrong. Read the description of 'door bar' on the article you gave me, and tell me where we went wrong??![]()

It is a perception thing and every tech guy I have had to work with has had their own interpretation on things.
But the bends are nowhere near as strong as a straight tube or X brace and it is going to raise an eyebrow.......I'd bet on it.
I am certainly not the final word on this , and it will definitely depend on the track and event where you are looking to run.
I might float it past your local tech inspector for an opinion before you get the interior done just to see how deep the water is.
You could probably email a pic to them.

Dont let the headers worry you... its like doing a
puzzle... hope you like puzzles.. LOL.. once I get
home next month send me a PM and I'll run your engine
specs through my header program so you know what size
and lengths of the primaries and the collectors...
chassis cars arent bad at all.... on the door bars
its the bends that wont fly... try it for cert.. at
least you can cut them out fairly easy... I have a
bend in my side bars on the Rampage BUT I'm not gonna
cert it being its a 10.0 car.. I cant drive faster
than 10.0... I am still thinking of welding in a
angle tube from the bend down to the base of the main hoop

Won't be long now!
What's the plan for the motor?

I texted a couple people and you guys are correct, the way things are going I won't want to stay at 10-11 second et's for long so I guess I'll be making new door bars....just wanted it to be easier to get in and I'm not putting swingouts in there lol. So thanks quick, tubtar and mr p body for saying something.
Quote:i remember now, you have learned a lot and done one heck of a job
Thanks, quick. It's s 95 Dodge Avenger, bought it for 500 bucks off craigslist and started tearing it apart. Didn't know how to stick two pieces of metal together when I started about 3-4 years ago. I know its not $hit compared to some and there are a thousand things I'd do different now that I've built one. What a humbling experience lol. And my father probably deserves an award for his patience, I've learned a lot![]()

If you do it like mine are BUT put the brace tube
in from the bend to the base of the main hoop it will
be legal and pass cert

I ran across this thread this morning and wondered how I had missed it. I looked at the start date and knew. I was in the hospital getting a new hip April 14 2014. I didn't get on here much for awhile. Car looks good and very nice work. You and Walt have fun!!![]()
Quote:if you lower the attaching point you wouldn't need a bend
I have them bent and it passes tech and is certed to 8.50

Well this is what I've got. By the book but rubs the seat more then I'd like, oh well.

My 8.50 cage had some bends in it. It was built a long time ago though.
Looks great so far Chad! That's gonna be a great car. Keep your eyes peeled for a stroker kit, my Duster motor is street only, but it's 500" just because I found someone selling a complete stroker kit brand new for $1500, it had an Eagle crank, Eagle Rods, JE flat top pistons. I used my stock main caps with a 440Source main girdle. I wanted alot of torque so I could run a tight converter and 3.55 gears.

Chad.. thats a nice seat.. what is it(brand name) and
how wide is it..I'd like to replace my stock seats
in my Rampage but I want a sport style seat like that

Quote:
that seat sets up pretty high. if you are going to X brace make sure the other bar is low. with a removable steering wheel you should be good.
