SFI Shoes questions. - 04/09/14 09:58 PM

Well it looks like I need to have SFI shoes. For now we have slowed down to keep it at 10.0 but I need to get my gear in order to be able to run it hard. I have almost everything else now, but the shoes are giving me problems.

Ordered in a set in the same size as my sneakers, and they are way too narrow. Called up summit and they told me that was the widest set they carried.

Started searching the web and so far have not found any race/driving/SFI shoes in wide sizes.

I can't be the only person with wide feet. Any suggestions on where I can find SFI shoes in wide sizes?

Also, what do you find comfortable? My car is a stick car if that makes a difference. Using stock A-Body pedals.

I realize that Quicktree, but my car is quite a bit quicker than than 10.0.

Right now I am easing off the clutch (4speed car) instead of launching it, and I am short shifting 1500 rpm below my redline. My mph is still north of 135.

Since I run NSS, I can get away with slowing it down and running a 10.0 index for a while, but this car was built to run NSS/FX classes. I can only get away with a jacket/gloves/helmet and work boots for so long.

It is hard to judge just how fast I am running because I am still leaning the car and don't have a speedo on my Jerico.

Better safe than sorry anyway.

nothing wrong with getting them if you want them, but unless you can run faster 7.50 in the 1/4 you wont need them. it may even be 6.0 I don't remember.

No where near 7.50! Looks like I was reading it wrong! Thanks! You just saved me some $$$.

9.99 (*6.39) to 7.50 (*4.50 ) or any vehicle exceeding 135
mph: Jacket and pants meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/5 and gloves
meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1 mandatory, except as noted above.

NECK COLLAR
Neck collar meeting SFI Spec 3.3 mandatory in all cars running
9.99 (*6.39) or quicker or cars exceeding 135 mph. A head and
neck restraint device/system may be used in lieu of a neck collar.
See General Regulations 10:8.

So if I am reading it correctly this time, I need jacket, gloves, pants, neck collar and helmet.

If this is correct I need to buy a couple things to be compliant as well. Didn't realize I needed pants or neck brace.

Full face helmet is on order as mine expired last year. Thanks for the post Dave and for the info Mike.
