I was at Clay Kossuths house a few days ago and we were talking about what races/event each of us were going to this year.

Clay and his wife Rosie both race NSS (his car is Max Attack and hers is Lady Max)

He said that their favorite event every year is the Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green.
Rosie won a Wally there in 2012.

From what he said I'd love to go but I don't think it will fit in the budget this year.

Have attended for last several years as a racer. Already in for this year too. Good crowds and lot of racers and show cars. Be ready for lots of walking or you can rent a golf cart at the event. Bring your camera and sunscreen for sure. Quit a few Mopars are usually there. Better get your motel room booked as they always sell out early. Most of the big motels and eating places are on or just off Scottsville Road about 15 minutes from the track. Get to the track early as the line gets long quick to get in. Good info on NHRA website in the museum section.

Nice place. Old school covered grandstands. Usually lots of NSS cars and Gassers. 1/4 mile track. Pits run the full length of the track and shutdown so it is lots of walking unless you have a golf cart etc.Car show fun field on the tower end of track. Swap meet usually slim on Mopar stuff. Trees for shade in parts of the car show swap area. I just go as a spectator and always have a good time. It is usually hot and humid. Hat, sun screen and ear plugs advised for the grandstand. Come on down don't think you will be
sorry.

The camp grounds are nice too.you can get a pass for your golf cart and travel back and forth as you need. Then when the sun goes down the burnouts start in the back of the campground.Last year they towed the nova funny car of jungle jims and cackled it jungle pam was there too. There were a couple of old feds in the camp area they would do the same right at dark.We go down for the whole week and take the motor home and my old street rod down.Hopefully i will get my sweptline done and have it there. We wouldnt miss it everone needs to go at least once and see it.

The HRR at Beech Bend is a great show, expect it to be HOT and HUMID. There are tons of nice race cars there, I never venture over to look at the poodles though. As mentioned not much Mopar stuff at the swap meet. They usually have some cool old race cars set up in the circle track. Bowling Green is a cool town, W. KY University is there as is the National Corvette Museum. Did I mention that it will probably be HOT?

I plan on going, any race at Bowling Green is a good one as far as Im concerned, I plan on being a "local" there sometime this summer. Went the the HRR last year had a good time. Beech Bend is one of the places I grew to love drag racing back about 40 years ago.

Every year I hope to make it but never do. I'd like to bring my '67 Belvedere (it's been sidelined for years with a spun bearing) and show it to the original owner, track owner Dallas Jones. He hasn't seen it since he sold it in 1969 after blowing the clutch.
Maybe next year.

I really wanted to go last year. Didn't get my license in time. A few notes from some who competed. I scheduled my days wrong. Starts Thursday and ended Saturday. Entry is $100, motor home is an additional $65, crew passes are $65. Tech was said to be strict with no margin for error, make sure you have everything lined up. I should add the track is a great venue.

definitely one of my must do events each year now. sensory overload. i hope we get to camp there again this year. great night life. remember this is a thursday, friday and saturday show. if you can go only one day make it saturday and plan on staying until after dark.

Re: Hot Rod reunion ,Bowling Green, KY 6-12 / 6-14 - 03/29/14 08:55 PM

Last time I went the Tech portion was very laid back. They just checked the usual stuff, ( helmet, jacket, shut off, etc ) they weren't crawling all over the car. Might vary with the ET a particular car runs'

DVW ( congrats on the car write-up, well deserved )

If my car hasn't sold by then, I will bring it and run it.

Yep the amusement park is still in operation. The wooden roller coaster was built five or six years ago, they have a nice water park also.

I count down the days every year. My all time favorite race! Dad was the first racer registered this year and I was number two. We get there and wait for them to open the gates. Look for the Hudson's on the fence near the et boards and we'll have a beer. Get there early if you want a good pit.

Look forward to meeting you 69chargerMD, I had about the same experience as you in tech there, they do check the cars but not to radical, closer though than most of the Ohio and Pa tracks do that Ive been to though. Hate to wish you wouldnt sell the car, but would like to see that 65 running there. I'll be running NSS

I'll be racing again this year, NSS. I camp in the pits, there are showers on site. I get around by bicycle, some areas they aren't allowed.

We go every year to spectate. It's one of those old tracks where the stands are close to the track. Always a great time.

Even though I live 13 miles from the track, the Duster stays at home. I take off work Thursday and Friday, rent a golf cart and my dad and I go and watch (remember it is Father's day weekend). It is by the far the most Chrysler cars you will ever see at Beech Bend for a race. We pitch a tent on the hill across from the pits, watch a while and drive around a while. We are always looking to make new mopar friends. This event always has me wanting to sell/trade the Duster and move to a 63/64 wagon or post car.

I've been trying to talk Kayse into going to as spectators for Saturday.

Driving down in her car makes it a cheaper trip.
Probably one tank of gas each way.

Re: Hot Rod reunion ,Bowling Green, KY 6-12 / 6-14 - 04/01/14 04:25 AM

We're planning to go again this year. We went in 2008 and had a blast!
I have a few questions...
1) If I enter B/Modified Elim (10.50 index, full tree) and am not competitive, would I be allowed to change classes and run in Hot Rod? For example, if I could only run 10.65, not really competitive in in 10.50 or 11.00 indexes, could I run in Hot Rod where your index is set by your qualifing passes?
2)How tight is the tech inspection? I have all of my safety equipment, but some things like my CSR trans shield sfi sticker has ran out as has the sfi sticker on my balancer.
3)At 10.50 ET, will I have to have a diaper?

If anyone can answer these question, please chime in. Or if anyone knows who can answer then, let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

I bring my LQ trailer and park in the campgrounds to watch the burnouts (that includes us) all night long! Drop by for a cold one if you are out and about. Here is Slax69gts in front of my 69 D200 in the campground.

72CudaRacer, NHRA reunion website lists Bruce Bachelder 317-216-4869 or Pat Cvengros 626-914-4761 for any tech questions. I haven't seen tech crawl under cars to check the stickers on trans shields but where one is visible (on your balancer) they might get picky. They made me change a Teflon oil pressure line to a braided line a couple of years ago before I could run. The guy behind me in tech had the same Teflon line and they passed his. Tech is kinda hit and miss I guess. See ya there.
