Measured my blocks ridge, rigid hone ok or have to bore? - 02/27/14 12:03 AM
Measured my 440 blocks cylinder bores and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with it.
I really am trying to be lowbuck on this one, but I'll do what I need to do if necessary.
With a dial bore gauge, measuring the untouched top of each cylinder and just below the ridge...I get between .0013-.0015 wear (ridge). I'm tempted to just hone the cylinders as I may have a line on a new set of pistons for real cheap at the current bore.
To me (not a machinist and not really that knowledgable in this area) that seems like minimal wear and would hone right out with a ridged hone. As I don't have the pistons on hand...I can't measure them to see what exactly that would do to piston-to-wall clearances. They are KB Hyperuetic pistons which would put compression right where I want it to be.
Input is appreciated.....I figured as long as I don't exceed .0040" that they may be a bit noisey....but would be otherwise ok. Opinions?
