what is this new kind of braided hose? - 01/12/14 08:36 PM

I've been seeing a different kind of braided hose on race cars for the last few years, instead of the braided stainless steel. What is it? Is it lighter or stronger, or cheaper or easier to use? What about safety how does it compare with braided steel in that regard? Thanks, Joel

Are you talking about the fabric covered lines? I use these when possible. They are easier to work with but they are a little more expensive.

Much, much lighter and just as or more stronger. I have it on my car.

Lighter, but they only give up abrasion resistance and bling. The stainless really never added much strength wise anyway.

Cool! Can you use it for external oil suction lines - pump to pan?

Says it holds 27 hg vacuum...

You can also buy internal springs to keep it from collapsing on tight bends and high vacuum

Don't use it, does not last as long as stainless braided. Your experience my differ from mine but for the added cost it's not worth it.

Have been using different brands on different applications for years and have yet to have any problems with any of them except for once and that was our fault. If you ever use the Jegs stuff and take a fitting off you MUST cut the hose a little shorter or the hose will not seat back on the fitting. We blew a trans line off. Fixed it and never had a problem again. And that was on one of Jeg's top dragsters.

Most braided hose has rubber inside, no rubber will last very long. It's no different than regular rubber hose without the braid, it don't last forever.

A lot guys think it last for years but it don't.

It should only be used in short lengths and replaced every couple three or so years.

Buy hoses made for use with alcohol. They should last a little longer.

Again over time FUEL of any kind is going to eat them up. Just a matter of how soon.
