Street/Strip RWD Daytona?

Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 11/22/13 09:58 PM

Who's done it? I know where a very clean, straight Daytona body is and was thinking my 408 would make it a fun ride.

Would a Laser work also ?

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 11/22/13 10:42 PM

I had a Daytona once with the M/P rear wheel drive conversion (unprofessionally) done to it, I bought it as is with a 340 in it, the car was a hoot even though it had a real cobbled braking system that almost led to my demise.

I sold the body to RhinoDart, he can probably tell you more, I think he and his buddies screwed around with it for awhile, hopefully they fixed all the hillbilly engineering it came with when I bought it.

I've been wanting to build another car for a while and my favorite 68-69 Barracudas are stupid expensive. I thought this may be a fun project. If it turned out well I may even sell my Dart.

Unfortunately, I am much better at acquiring projects than finishing them.

Besides, he said street car.

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 11/23/13 06:37 PM

I have thought of doing this for the past couple years. Time is always against me.

Lots of labour involved in the conversion, but it would be worth it.

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 12/14/13 04:34 AM

I have been hammering on my RWD Daytona now for 14 years, it never gets boring. I originally ran a 360 and 4 speed but now have a 5.7 hemi and 6 speed.
I can still hook you up with the conversion parts.

Any pics of the hemi?

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 12/14/13 05:07 PM

The Daytona isnt really any different than my P-Body
or even my Rampage... I do a full chassis on them
because I dont care for the few pieces of tubing they
sell in the kits and I wanted it stronger.. I have
a 416 in the Rampage with a 518 trans and a 9" rear end..
by the way I have a 92 Daytona that I gutted to build
up but I cant do it any more so thats for sale with
the ground effects

A Stratus R/T Coupe would be pretty cool with a new hemi and a 6-speed.

It's not like one would cost much more than a clean Daytona anyway

What would a smallblock converted Daytona weight? I have always thought about doing this but I didn't know a suspension crossmemeber was produced to do it.

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 12/15/13 10:36 PM

There were a ton of these littl L bodies that were really straight in a salvage not far from me a couple of years ago. Daytonas, Lasers, Chargers, etc.

Considered the work involved and potential resale value and passed.

Besides, the Dodge Conquests and Mitsubishi Starions were much cooler and already RWD.

IF you still have any 2 door L-bodies around I'm
looking for the right top side trim around the windshield...
if you could look it would be great.... the 2 door
L body is the same as my Rampage... thanks

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 12/16/13 05:16 AM

Mine is not on the street anymore but it is also the Turismo version. I acquired it from a member here back in 08. It was at one point on the street long before I had it and has the Mopar Performance conversion in it. I back halved and have run a best of 10.60@124 with a .020 over 360. It still has the stock struts up front. I wish I could get the front end done but have been waiting just to buy a complete roller.

I hope im doin this right the way im puttin this on here. and whoever posted the original question i dont mean to steal your light from your post. but i have somewhat of a similar situation, somewhat. i bought a chrysler crossfire and obviously its rear wheal drive so, different from your deal, but i went and pulled a 360 magnum from a durango and im rebuilding it right now and i was just wondering if anyone knows of anyone who has ever done this swap or is in the process of it. if you can point me in the right direction too i'll gladly post this question in another section.

Re: Street/Strip RWD Daytona? - 12/16/13 05:32 AM

Not a Daytona but here's my old 82 Dodge charger that was a pro street roller when I bought it. Redid the cage to chrome moly and with a .030 over trw piston 440, stock crank, and 906 heads would run 10.0's all day long. Very fun car. All metal and stock glass.

I saw a Dodge Conquest with a SB. Didn't look too hard of a swap.
