I see a whole bunch of controlled HP. the Fast guys have proved you don't need a fancy suspension to go fast.

You my friend hit the nail on the head..controlled HP is the magic word.AND a good suspension doesn't hurt either.

true but why do we build heavy cars then gripe about some body who weighs less?

Monte Smith has been telling us for 10 years to run longer front segment springs and top of the line shocks. Do any of us listen. Nope

It's not griping. It's JUST SAYING!

Too many think Cal-Tracs are a total waist and can't possibly work for the price and simplicity.

In reality they have been proven to 7's as far as I know. Maybe even better??

Re: next time a cal trac question comes up - 11/03/13 05:01 PM

That should be a 60 ft. record but I would guess if you called Calvert he would tell you those aren`t the same springs we`re all running. When I was at his shop a while back he said all of the really fast guys were running a new design(I never said that )spring and Al Heminez and a few were on em with specially valved Afco shocks...........but ya, they work.

He is heavy right now gup. He is 2710 but going to get that out over the winter. To go a 1.05 60 you are putting down a lot of power. 414 sbc with single fogger and santuffs. Oh yea a bes bullet.

Jeff is 3170 lbs. This was with a "poor" 60 ft of 1.22. I was just talking to him to day going to take some weight out of it this winter. And he works for precision chassis now.

I was trying to tell some folks this a few months ago and all I got was a bunch of flack. Mopars just don't have long enough front spring segments thus the IC is poor. Don't matter how many bolt on bandaids you install, until the spring eye is located properly the car won't work as good as it could.

I did this mod a few months ago but my tires are probably shot and the Rancho shocks don`t seem to be up to the task so new slicks and some double adjustables and hopefully I`ll be reporting back a new best.............

How many people have done it on here? Did anyone see a improvement in 60'? Really thinking about doing it to mine.

what length front segment did you do? I didn't know you did this. I wanted to do it with my car but I got ladders for free so that ended that but I still think if I get the extra cash I may go that route

Re: next time a cal trac question comes up - 11/05/13 05:07 AM

most of these guy's have traction control on them don't they ?
my car is not nearly as fast as them but I have the 20in front segment and my car hooks good.
now I just need good front shocks to control the front to keep it down some .

The whole Ron Rhodes race group is pretty stout. He is out 2-3 times a week testing. No joke. They are good people. Been running Firecore50 Wires on their cars for a couple years. Some pics. First is a video.
