Who has the best SB roller lifter ? - 12/18/08 09:16 PM

Who has a roller lifter that basically just drops in ? I've heard stories of some that uncover the oil holes and some that you have to grind on the block to use. Are there any that work good that just drop right in. I have a kit to tube and peen my block, but I have heard some go right in and you dont have to do a thing. It will be a pretty big roller with 1.7 ex rockers and 1.8 int rockers. Thanks for any help

Member on here, ou812, Brian, sells custom SB roller lifters from Comp Cams that will drop in witout any clearance issues. They have pretty good shrouding over the roller wheel too. But if you have too much lift, there is NO lifter that will prevent you from having to tube the Block or install bushings in the lifter bores. But his will give you the best advantage.

You didnt say which block you are using..but the BEST roller lifter out there are the crane ultra pro's 5 years thus far with zero issues, nice lifters.

Dropped right in my X block, but i run bushed lifters BECAUSE i pushrod oil with Jesel rocker gear.

We have the cam's base circle cut down while grinding the cam, to drop the lifter down in the bore more. If done right, you can run as much as a .470 lobe with my lifters.
I'll post pics of them later, but without a reduced base circle, .420 is about the safest to go unless it's checked some how with an existing cam.

Crane's are not the best out there anymore
These lifters are as good or better and they are less $$$!
Crane's are good, no doubt about it, but there is no need to pay more when you can get as good or better lifters from me

I am running the Crane Ultra-Pro's presently and I am very happy with them so far, when I replace them I will call Brian (ou812) and go with his.

I have heard bad about the ultra pro's also, some people have had great luck with them.

I have been running comps as well for awhile and have had zero problems with them, the crowers are also a good choice.

I don`t know about small blocks but, I`m running the isky solid body rollers in my big block and they work w/stock lifter bores and have been working flawlessly for 3 1/2 years street/strip.

Those Lifters are not custom anymore and will be listed in the Comp catalog, I have one of the original two sets produced by Comp they are very stout and drop right in, my lifter bores were bored and bushed which also corrects angle and position of the factory lifter bores.

Yes that's true, but they still act as if they know nothing about them.
I still don't know what price they are giving them....I will say that I can get these lifters in short bodies, tall upper bodies, solid bodies, and the bb lifters in .180 offsets, as well as short and tall bodies...Comp won't stock all those I guarantee that!!!
If they don't have the oil hole in the body running parallel with the axle, they are not the new design.

If you can use a set of Comp 828-16's I have a brand new set still in the box I couldn't use Ill sell pretty cheap. I bought them from Indy but they were too short for my R-3 lifter bores. Ill take $250 for the set. I had to go with the Crane ultra pros which came in a tall version.

The majority of the sprint car/circle track motors out here on East Coast use Cranes, ISKY's or Crowers, with Crane being most popular.

I use Crane Ultra Pros in almost everything, never had one fail yet.

Its a stock 360 block and the cam will have roughly .400 lobe lift, maybe a tad more. We'll tube and peen it too.
