bench seats and aftermarket auto shifters

bench seats and aftermarket auto shifters - 10/29/13 02:40 AM

i have had a set of Chevy Cavalier(yeh, i know) bucket seats in my heap since the mid-80's.
i had planned on taking my car off the track and just street driving it, and wanted a stock seat back in it.
my car is also a factory 4 speed car, so the plan was to put it back to a 4 speed/bench seat deal.
well, i have gotten another car to handle the street duty, and am thinking of keeping the Satellite more of a strip/maybe some street car.
i dont see myself spending the kind of $$$ required to make it a "reliable" 4 speed race car, so i'm leaning towards keeping it an auto.
i had the old auto shifter mounted between the bucket seats before, but with the bench seat thats going to have to change.
so......if you guys have some pics of how you installed your aftermarket auto shifter with your bench seats......lets see 'em.

I used a .250 aluminum plate that attaches to the 4-speed hump using existing boot-screw holes, and my shifter mounts to it. One hole in the floor for the cable. Handy location for switches & mini-fuse block for them, too.

JBMopars posted a nice photo of his shifter in his bench seat Duster. I'll post the photo when I get home.

Dwayne we had a B & M Pro Stick in my sons Dart with a bench seat and it worked fine. But now he put buckets in it. I thought I had a pic with the bench seat but I cant seem to find it. Ron

Are you referring to your recent Phord purchase?

I understand completely and, in my case, can't imagine The MoPig being any other way.

On ours we just have a tubular mount that moves the shifter up and actually back onto the bench seat. Looks nice and works great. I don't have a picture on this computer though.

Dude, have you ever met Dwayne? I'd say a more accurate description would be grizzly bear than fox.

yea i've met him and while he might be good with engines i don't see any candlelight dinners in our future

just figured if you say he made a blue oval purchase to race i'm doubting it was a 68 ltd wagon and most likely would be a moosetwang

unless you have long ape like arms, you need to get the shifter up and back towards you to make it work well and be comfortable. On a tube type mount.

I didn't say he made a Phord purchase to race, and if you re-read his post, neither did he.

Dwayne, your street car conversion has been going on about as long as Brad H's engine rebuild

Dwayne,
I use a hurst promatic 2 shifter with the longer "truck" arm
mounts easy on the floor in front of bench

I did the same, only with flat stock, in a Z shape, shifter looked like it was just floating in mid air, look cool and was in easy reach.

Here is a comparison between the two Hurst Pro-Matic shifter heights.

Car version is 11.5" from the base to the top of the ball.
Truck version is 15.5" from the base to the top of the ball.
