T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 10/26/13 06:27 PM

Previously i was running about 10 sometimes touching 11 lbs of boost at the top of third gear. Last night i tried 13lbs touching 14 at the top of third...

Leaving at 3200 rpms (5 lbs) and shifting at 6000 crossing at 6200: 1.42, 6.32 @ 108.8, 9.97 @ 133.3

I will get a boost controller to help with the launch....

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 10/27/13 03:29 AM

I found a cheap 10" converter and a slightly larger cam for a winter upgrade. If I had your 60' I would be a happy MF'er. That would put me at 11.20's@ 121. Not gonna hold out hope for .7 sec. improvment, but it's gonna get better.

They are 83 lb injectors.

My goal when I started the build was a very streetable 10 second truck so I think I accomplished and exceeded that!

Thanks Ted!

Very nice man! Gotta feel great to get that 9 sec slip!

Get a boost controller and a trans brake in that thing. It will make all the difference in the world for getting it down the track.

How big of a shot of the juice in the chally?
Posted By: TheOtherDodge

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 10/29/13 01:06 PM

Motor is a stroked 5.2 for 389 cid.

I ran 160 shot on the Chally. I couldn't get it to hook on a bigger shot.

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 11/22/13 03:29 PM

I've been hitting mine with 18.8 psi of boost and spinning it to 7,000 for quite some time on the stock block with factory caps and bolts and no fill. I'm betting you still have LOTS of room left to work with. I think the "myth" about how much these blocks can take is based on failed parts with bad tunes.

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 11/22/13 03:51 PM

I agree. Look at a Windsor ford. Very weak looking compared to a 318-360 Mopar platform. Lots of after market blocks for the ford now but in the 80's and 90's lots of very fast stock blocks. As long as you keep a handle on the tune I think a turbo is easier on engine blocks and parts.

You`ve really got that thing scootin for sure...............

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 11/23/13 03:20 PM

We'll see how good the stock block is in turbo form. I have some upgrades coming this winter that are really going to put it to the test in the spring.

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 11/24/13 12:59 AM

From a lot of things I have read, a turbo is not as hard on a motor as N/A or other forms of power adders.

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 09/25/15 10:48 PM

haha, ya, but I haven't run the truck at the track since! I do plan on going in a few weeks to try out my fancy boost controller.

Josh: Thanks! Hope all is well for you there! I see your dad made the magazines!

Randy: I am running Classic FAST and pull 6,000-6100 through the traps.

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 09/27/15 03:40 AM

Congrats on the new best as you have it running real good. beer I always wonder just how much the boost makes it pick up ? I mean if you took the turbo off what do you think it would run ? I am just curious of about how much the turbo helps as it seems many of the fast turbo cars I see have engines that are not all that heavily built and are closer to stock then I thought. It does surprise me how well some of them hold up under boost. But you sure have it running good. up Ron

Re: T&T results with 13 lbs boost - 09/27/15 03:29 PM

I would guess the motor makes around 350 hp. 389 cubes, M1, home ported Eddy heads (2.02/1.62), .520 hydraulic roller cam (wide LSA with 220 duation), 9.4:1 compression.

With the tight converter and no gearing with tall tires (3.55, 30" tall) I would guess somewhere around low 12's.
