opinions and advice needed 451 Vortech blower - 08/21/13 03:28 AM

Need help on what changes would make this work better on the cheap. I've bought and traded myself into a mismatched pill-o-parts.

451 stroker CP flat top forged pistons aprox .015 in the hole manley H beam rods ported and polished 906 heads with stainless valves and Comp #924 springs. Cam motion solid lift 638 lift and 285 duration (ray barton specd cam). Crane 1.5 roller rockers Indy 400-2 max wedge port intake. 950 quick fuel carb and a vortech V-2 supercharger.

Want to keep this on pump gas and kill some cameros! So what changes would ya'll make???

You are probably going to need to get some thick cometic gaskets. Any idea what compression you'll have w/ standard head gaskets? What converter and gear? That cam in a N/A motor would probably like 4200+ stall and 4.30's.. with boost you won't need so much. Any idea how much air that head unit can push? I'd expect a pretty big HP gain w/ 8-10psi of boost. I'd probably also run a Snow Performance meth/H2O injection kit.

Blower has 12psi pulley on it. It is a small blower think it will push 1050cfm. Have a 9" converter 3500. Rear gear prob be 4.10. With open camber heads and the pistons below deck I'm guessing around 9:1. The chambers in the heads have also been polished. Got this blower in a trade, wish it were bigger

I think you'd be happier w/ lower gears.. maybe 3.73's or 3.91's. Is that a blower cam? If not you might want to yank it and get one. Be careful when you first set it up timing wise I think you might have more than 9:1, maybe somebody with that desktop thing can figure it out.

Found a compression calculator. Close to 9.5:1. I'm not finding a cometic gasket thick enough for a significant compression drop. Did find a copper gasket .080 thick which would bring it to 8.8:1. Cam is not a blower cam.

If you're trying to do it on the cheap, put it together and let it rip. 9.5:1 is a little high for pump gas, you'll just have to knock some timing out of it to keep it happy.

Is it all perfect... nope. Will it sill make a bunch of power... yup.

The only thing is the cam a 285@.050" lift? If so that is huge. If the blower is really small, you're going to have to keep the RPM of the engine down. A 1050cfm blower won't keep up with a 451" motor to high RPM.

Call vortech and ask them what kind of RPM this blower will support on a 451" engine. Buy a cam to match, and let it rip.

All this is goin in a 71 valiant. Figured that cam would be a no go. I've read of people having trouble out of the copper gaskets on the street.

Anyone want to throw a guess on what kind of power this thing will make?? I'll prob have a custom ground cam.
