Special Thanks to CC Events & Mo-Power owners old & new - 06/18/13 01:27 AM

Racing is the same everywhere, it's the people who make It memorable. Thanks to our Racing Friends and Racing Family, thanks to Jeff & Becky Johnson and the Blankenship Family. We have attended the series for 26 years it is hard to believe the series has come to an end. Our daughters were raised attending the Chrysler Classic Events. No wonder they are racing today. You would see us as family either showing our 70 AAR Cuda starting at Northland Dodge Shine & Show, 69 AMX at the Chrysler Classic, racing our 68 GTS Dart and Chasity racing her 65 Barracuda. Even Melissa started out racing her 98 Neon and she was racing she use to tell us. Thanks again for the 26 years of family memories with friends that will last a life time. Not too many times do you hear the good things just wanted to show some appreciation for the race series we enjoyed being a part of over the years. Some of our daughters best friends today they met racing the series. Brian Hurst and Melissa have been best friends for 12 yrs how often do you hear that. Thanks again for everything.

I really hate hearing this type of news and am also going to have to decide what to do now since the Chrysler Classic / Mo-Power events have been a main stay of my racing since I found out about it back in 1995/1996 and have had a lot of fun doing it for all those years, All I can say is you and the girls stay in contact and maybe we can meet up again some day at a track somewhere and have fun again.

Quick question. Has anyone talked to the Blakenships about the rest of their events or is this speculation.

I understand due to health issues they canceled the event in Virginia, but that doesnt mean they are done, unless they said they are done.

Well the person that posted this is very close to them. and he would not post this if he was not sure. I trust him. It is a shame.. I hope charlie will be ok. I wish no bad health on no one. Believe me there is no love lost between us. The rest of the family are great people. Was very good to me and my family I really feel bad for them. Hate to see it end this way.

I questioned the cancellation yesterday evening with a close friend of the blankenships. We had plans on attending the WV race. This morning the message came out that the series has closed there will be no more racing. Like Jamie commented it was from a very close friend of the blankenshipm I trully believe it is true. Thay have not posted anything yet.

I guess you'll need to start racing with us at NTR in the ET series, It's a lot of fun. Plus we could use more Mopar's.

Chris, Charlie, Eddie, Sis, Hank and all their people always treated me great. Hope the health issue gets remedied.

Just wanted to share what our daughter wrote and her feelings of the series ending. this is coming from a 24 year old young women who took her first picture by our 70 AAR Cuda at the Chrysler Classic at one month old.

Like Melissa states you can race anywhere, however, it is the racers who make a difference. The racers need to stick together stay as a racing family. Or more series will die just like the MO-POWERS EVENTS did. Lot of people did not care for Charlie, but, there were a lot of people that he did not have bad feelings with. We supported the series highly the biggest reason is we did not want to see it die like it has we wanted to keep it going.

Melissa Amber Kwast

So much has happened this week. I am celebrating anniversaries with the people that mean the most to me, and I am mourning the loss of a racing series that was important. I met most of my closest friends at the Chrysler classic turned mopower events races. Although I understand that everything comes to an end, I am still very sad to see it go. I have laughed, cried, had some of the best times, and certainly some of the worst at those series, but the people I raced with always stayed the same. They are more than friends, they are another family. I met my best friends, I fell In love (twice), and I gained a lifetime of supporters. Everyone says you can just go race anywhere, and yes they are right you can, but although the racing is the same, the people are not. Most of these people have watched me grow up. They watched me when I raced a 98 dodge neon, and still cheered me on. They saw the huge mess of me learning to drive the dart. Tomorrow marks 10 years that brian hurst and I have been best friends, and he is only one of many who remember when I did not even drive. Now look at us, all of us. Some have been racing the same car since the beginning, and some have moved on to bigger and better, but we always stuck together. Thank you to the Johnson's for starting it, and thank you to the Blankenship's for keeping it going this far. So now we have to ask, what's next? Where do we go from here?

Re: Special Thanks to CC Events & Mo-Power owners old & new - 06/20/13 02:48 AM

I made my first 1/4 mile pass at the Chrysler Classic in about '97. I started going in' 95 and I think in its heyday it was every bit as good as the Nats(didn't reappear there for a couple more years).
I only raced that one year, but I sold some stuff and always at least walked around and watched some racing. It sucked to see it become what it was on the swap meet/everything - but - racing side of things. Hate to see it leave completely. Now what the heck do I look forward to spending all my money at in May?

Darin,
Just come on over again and I will sell you more stuff. You don't even have to wait for may either. LOL

If you aren't busy this weekend, come on out to the Spring Nostalgia Nationals at NTR . It's for the 77 and older cars. Phone was ringing off the hook today about the event and a few of the local heavy hitters will be there in their Hemi cars. I had my Hemi Cuda out tonight for a few shakedown runs and the track was hookin. Hookin so go we said adios to the Dana 60 gears. See you guys at NTR this weekend!

David, I'm sure I'll be back for more. You can never have too many parts. But let me get the ones I already bought installed first!
Sounds like a good time, Larry. I haven't looked at the NTR schedule in a while. Is this in addition to the Nostalgia race the Goodguys weekend?
Neither of these options help me schedule my first 'motivating' event of the show season for 2014! Maybe I'll take my Route 66 trip then.

All my events that I have done since 1988 were all Mopar until these nostalgia events that I have had at NTR, and they keep getting bigger. Mine is on June 22-23,2013, and the Goodguys event is in mid July. You can go to www.sledcityevents and find the details on this event and see pictures of past events in the gallerys. See you this weekend.

Re: Special Thanks to CC Events & Mo-Power owners old & new - 06/20/13 06:52 PM

I won the mopower events super pro event at Kilkare last year and won a 575.00 and it cost me 90.00 to enter

This year we were lied to about the ladder and it put myself and my team car against each other in the first round.

The ladder was set but A dragster broke and left the race track so we went to the tower and asked them to take him off the ladder (per the rules) even though It gave my team car a by run in round 1 if they left that broke car on the ladder. We were told they were in contact with the broke car's owner by phone and he was coming back. We asked them again because if they were to take the broke car off the ladder that put myself and my team car against each other 1st round and we were going to spray away from each other. They said no he stays on the ladder he is coming back. Well guess what at the last minute they changed the ladder when we had no more hits at qualifying. We went to the tower and asked why they put the screws to us and They said it was Blankenships call not the towers so we went to Charlie and he said it was the towers call. The next day we called the broke cars owner and He said He spoke to no one before or after he left

But it was always like that change the rules to benefit someone they liked and screw everyone else.

I met almost all of my best friends at the cc events and that is cool but I could not give less of a $hit about the series.

After Columbus this year We had a team meeting and decided to never run the mopower events again. That's nine race cars, We figured we gave them better part of two grand every event for the last 10 years only to get lied to.

I will very much miss the racers but not the promoter.

he didn't want to pay me for semis of box class this year when I had a tire go flat.. I staged the car on a flat tire because I knew what he was going to try to do to me.

Kind of like driving 8 hr to a race go 7 rds and win it. got pay'ed 450.00 or win the championship for the year and get 200.00

Re: Special Thanks to CC Events & Mo-Power owners old & new - 06/21/13 11:59 PM

Chas and Melissa, don't worry about having a series to run at, I'm sure things will get better if Josh could pick up C-Bus and maybe BG or Bristol or Chi-town we would have a good paying series that us old guys would be willing to travel to. I never went to KK even though it is only 50 miles from me because I could run for the same money with a lower entry at Edgewater on Sat. nite and Tristate on Sun. A series has to have a better hook to get me and that would include posting a points fund paid out after the final event (right Vern).

Re: Special Thanks to CC Events & Mo-Power owners old & new - 06/22/13 12:34 AM

Well as I mentioned many time in the past these promoters were on a path of selfdistruction. The way they schudled events, brought personal drama to public attention, mistreated the people that attended and played games with rules and payouts along with an aready uncertain economy it was only a matter of time before the support would drop of.
Personally we enjoyed a long run with the Blankenship family,7 of the last 8 years hosting the Curt Memorial Race at PRP.We have the utmost respect for Chris,Eddie and the crew but the last few years Charlie's attitude strained the relationship and PRP decided that they would not tolerate Curt's memory, their track and crew being disrespected. The first CC event that Jeff Johnson hosted at PRP was his last for being disrespectfull of the track personal and when the Tedescos ask us to put together the first Curt Memorial Race shortly after his death, which we did with only two weeks to prepare.Jeff decided to negatively comment via the internet his opinion of the event and we felt that was very disrespectful of Curt's memory and to our family. For this he has never apologized and I can never in my heart support his events.
The new management at PRP was slow to respone to plan the event and a lot was left up in the air and it was uncertain weather there would be a 2013 race we were concerned.Norm Fox from Quaker City contacted us about hosting the event since he understood Curt started his racing career at Quaker and it was his home track for many years.
We are pleased that the event will continue and hope to see all our old friends and meet new ones at this event.
As far as Charlie,Jeff,Larry and others we can only wish them success and good health. We want also to thank all those who attend and support the upcomming Curt George Memorial Race.
Respectfully
Bob

I have seen promoters let cars qualify after the session was over, seen them change the advertised program. enough to discourage me to drive to or support their series, I'm sure my one car won't be missed

Thanks Bob for wishing me success and good health. As for success, everyday that I wake up is success, and as for my health, just had a root canal done yesterday so that I could have my famous smile working just for the Bob George racers when they show up this weekend at NTR for the Nostalgia race where you can have a chance to kick some brand X butt. So far tonight it looked to be about 80% Mopar at this race. Hope to see you soon, Larry
