Online Petition To Increase NHRA Sportsman Coverage On ESPN! Online petition to increase nhra sportsman coverage on ESPN Saw this petition while playing on the internet and thought I would pass it along. I believe with enough support it could make a difference. Here's the link and the second link is the guy who wrote it out I believe.

The Sportsman Drag Racers never get any coverage, maybe we need to let ESPN know there are people who would like to see more Sportsman coverage. Everyone (well most) on here say they are not interested in see only Pro-Coverage they want to see some Sportsman coverage. If we don't let them know there are people who want to see it we will never get any coverage. We need to post this on every race site we go to!

In light of this weekends events, I don't see that gaining much traction.

Same here! Must be NHRA doing the petition, They want money for everything They should honestly realize there are 50 times more sportsman racers than the pro ranks which the only thing to me worth watchin is Prostock. I hate to say it but Pinks All Out got it right for viewers.

i fully agree, sportsman coverage should show sportsman racing, not just alcohol cars and a 2 second class spot for everything else.at least show the semis and later.lately even the pro stock coverage is shortened to minimal time for the almighty top fuel/funny car bottomless wallets.the"little" guy doesnt have a chance in hell of garnering anything but grief from the nhra gods.....funny though, seems i remember the same thing happening in the eighties, and ihra was more than happy to help the "little guys".....

Good luck with it, seriously. But they way things are in the sportsman ranks, you have a tuff row to hoe. For something to be televised, it needs an assurance of a large audience. Handicaps, weight penalties, breakouts, indexes, throttle stops after launching, loosing by going too fast, sandbagging, stripe racing.... If John Q. Public doesn't understand and relate to it, they aren't going to watch it.
The Pro classes are easy: heads up start, first one to the stipe wins. The masses can relate to that.

I agree most of the public don't understand and never will unless us Sportsman Racers start getting some coverage.
But there are a lot of us Sportsman Racers and Race Fans who would like to see Coverage of the Sportsman Class's on TV and if we don't speak up and let ESPN know while we have the chance. They will think there is no interest what so ever in the Sportsman Coverage and will show Spelling Bee's,Poker,put-put golf instead of giving us any Coverage.

I will get the mans full name later but his 1st name is Mark and he broadcast online a lot of the Big $$$ Bracket Race's and Heads-Up race's and you would not believe how many log on to his site to watch the races!

Re: Online Petition To Increase NHRA Sportsman Coverage ! - 04/30/13 07:46 PM

Not going to happen, sorry.

I went to the AZ Nationals as a spectator this year and sat on the spectator side. What I learned regarding Sportsman racing:

1) Top Sportsman and Top Dragster are the most popular. More so than Pro Stock. In fact after the Fuel cars, when P/S came out, fans scattered Pee, food and more beer was better than watching P/S.

2) Stockers are boring unless they do big wheelies.

3) Super Stockers are boring unless they do big wheelies or an 8 second car chases down a 11 second car. Or...you're an "underdog". A V6 Fireturd won SS and the crowd was into that.

3A) The crowd doesn't get the handicap deal or why/how, but they CAN see after a significant handicap, the finish line is close

4) Super Gas and Super Comp actually get quite a few negative comments from the crowd. Throttle stops look STUPID from the stands and worse yet on TV.

Bottom line is that on TV it all looks slow unless it's a 300 mph fuel car. P/S looks slow on TV, so the typical TV motorsports fan will no way, sit through NHRA/IHRA sportsman on TV.

This might be not just the only time where all of us Drag Racers can voice our united opinion's on wanting to see Sportsman Coverage but the last time.If we don't let them know, they will think there is no interest and never give us any coverage.
What do you want to watch on ESPN Drag Racing or spelling bee's & put put golf?

Re: Online Petition To Increase NHRA Sportsman Coverage ! - 05/01/13 02:51 PM

I am in the agreement that most do not care to watch bracket racing or throttle stop racing. I really don't care to watch NHRA anymore. So with that said I support drag racing by DRAG RACING every chance I get. I support the local tracks. I could care less if NHRA takes a dump.I care less if anyone watches me on TV. There are alot of sports that never get on TV and are still doing fine. Why because the people support there sport / hobby.
