Hooker Fenderwell a body headers Opinoins?? - 04/11/13 09:56 PM

Im looking at a set of 5205 fenderwell headers for my 71 dart with a moderately built 518hp 440. I was wondering if anyone has pics or info on
Tire clearance Issues
Overall fitment in regards to the engine bay
Ground Clearance issues
Any helpful experiences???

Check on my "Thumperdart`s photos" and you`ll see somewhat how they fit and they do rub a little when turning w/26" tall street tires but I can live with it.

Here's mine after fitting and cermachroming. I also have 26" fronts and they do rub a little but not bad. I took some exhaust bending mandrels and pushed a couple of the tubes back to the firewall with a portopower to give them a little more clearance and had them coated.

Thumperdart, do you do carpeting for a living?
The interior of your car is really nice. I think I have been inspired to carpet my car!
So far it appears That they may rub on my front tires.
My car is pretty low to the ground , Will these sit below the frame rails?

I have 26" tires on the front of my Dart and had major clearance issues. Until I got smart and got rid of the 15 x 3 1/2" wheels. I bought a set of 15 x 5 or 6 can't remeber. that lowered the profile a little, but still kept the tire contact area small. I still rub a little on turns, but not much. It also depends on how you set your ride height. I used to have my Dart set a little high all the way around and they didn't rub at all, but my driveshaft rubbed the crossmember. So I had to lower the car. Now they rub a little when I turn.

We run the 2" Hooker Fender Well Headers, and the 26" tire. Like everyone else has indicated, the headers rub the tires when you turn, especially to the left.
However, another concern that I didn't see mentioned is that the collectors hang at such an angle that you must be careful unloading your car from the trailer, because the flang, particularly the drivers side, can hang up on your ramp or the back of the trailer.
In addition we run race mufflers with turn outs on ours and they can be a little low as well.

I run a custom set that don't rub on the 26" tires, but do come real close to the frame.
