The consensus here in the past was it'd be fine. Can't wait to see what the new comment s are.

My 426 Hemi is filled up to the top of the freeze plugs and its a street car.4" from the deck isn't that much of a fill.
I haven't taken a long trip yet but with an oil cooler, I'm not going to worry about it. Watch your oil temp.
All the heat is in the top end anyways.

sounds great.. I really want to build it for street and strip (50/50) around 10.5:1 comp.

Someone else made mention of using an oil cooler, which is what I'd been told might be required when asking about a partial fill used on the street, too.

SHOULD be fine for a streeter .... as long as the top-ring has water across from it ... but it is BESTer if #2 has it tooo.

Here is my two cents on this, after doing alot of asking about this here and other places.

I have filled my block to a little above the freeze plugs (SB). I decided against the oil cooler from the get go since I have a street car and unless the coolers are thermostatically controlled, it can take quite a while to heat that oil up. So I am putting a temperature gauge in the pan, and will watch my oil temps, then decide from there if I need to add a cooler to the system.

Consensus is a half fill should be fine...and remember what you need to watch is oil temps, not water...if anything, your water temps should be better than before since there is now less area for the water to cool...so don't be tricked that cooler water means cooler oil, because it doesn't

Thats my ...good luck!

Fill to bottom of freeze plugs. Ive ran it this way 10 years in a low 10 sec. street car,no problems. Most of the heats in the top of the cylinder anyway.
