Fuel prices in your area?

Fuel prices in your area? - 03/23/13 01:07 PM

What are you guys paying for fuel? I priced VP 110 at 7.75 a gallon here...Thought about switching to E-85 or alky but I would have to race steady to justify the initial expense...And that won't happen with weekend entry fees of 165.00 or 90.00 a day. So we wil run just a couple of events for fun...

Sunoco Supreme 112 is $8.60 gallon in 54 gallon drums.

$3.30a gal for E-85 here... I havent priced 110 in
a FEW years now.... you can change over your carb to
E-85 for pretty cheap... there are sites that give you
step by step and within a year you would recoup your
money

Hey,Raff! The other day,E-85 here is 2.95..And I would hate to ruin a good Dominator!! I see Quick Fuel has the kit for it...But I am sure that I don't have enough fuel pump. I have to change my fuel line from aluminum to braided...It has a nasty kink!

I didnt have to change pumps because I had enough
flow.. I run a pair of 150 black Holley pumps in
parallel.. had them on there for gas and they are
still working fine... yeah you would have to fix the
kink(but you should anyways)

In Texas it is $9.50 a gallon at track and a little cheaper in 54 gallon drum. I was wondering how much more e-85 do you burn compared to gasoline? I was told that to warm the motor a long idle time is required and will burn a little more than twice for pure alcohol.

With E-85 you burn 30% more fuel over gas.. alky
is roughly 2 times over gas... both have a little
harder time getting the temp up but with alky most
guys run a lean out valve to build heat... I let my
engine run a bit longer without the fan and keep the
water pump running to keep the block and rad at about
160 while in the lanes... I always fire it up to move
forward and let it run a minute before I shut it down

Its all good! So...In theory,it sounds like I could just add another 140 gph pump and get a different carb..

This is one way it can be done Ted.

I don't know why more people when they need a bigger pump don't just add a 2nd pump in place of **** canning the one they already have an spending 2-3 times as much $$$ for the same results! Two Holley blue pumps in-line with a 1/2" line can supply enough gas for most engines.I like to come out of the fuel cell with one line to each pump then one line out of each pump about a foot into a good Y block.

Your right... I run the 2 lines out of the fuel cell
to the inlet of the pumps... then used a Y fitting
on the outlet side to a single 1/2" line going to my
regulator up front then 2 lines to the carb.. I run
a return line back to the tank(my return is 3/8)
Also I opened up the vent more.. I use another vent
line in the top of the cell with a loop in it

Thanks, guys!! I do know a couple of racers that have ran a pair of the Holley blue pumps and both cars are faster than me. Raff...You run just one regulator instead of two like the illustration John provided? Correct?? I do have a spare Holley blue in the garage...

I ran it like that for years well into the 9's Ted. Two holley blue pumps and one regulator up front.

Both cars I know are into the 9's,John...I could shelve my dominator system and look for a 4150 carb. I have a nicely done Victor intake for a 4150 series here...

Thanks,Raff! How cool would it be to go less than a block to get a barrel of fuel? There is also an ethanol plant nine miles north of me but I don't know if they sell direct...

I dont think they can sell direct... they produce
100% alky so if they sell it it HAS to be cut with
gas otherwise its alcohol(drinking stuff) and has
to be taxed as such

When I changed over to E-85 I was working so I payed
to have it changed over... I sent my 1050 Holley
to QF and had them do it since I didnt have the time
.. it came back and was basically dead on.. I did
jet up 2 jet sizes but the rest was perfect.and this
is what I got back from them

Edelbrock makes a mech. fuel pump for alcohol.A friend of mine has one on his 582 cu in BBC that makes over 900 hp,says he would not change over to a belt drive or electric pump if it was give to him.I am sure they offer it for a Mopar engine as well.

You guys are so lucky you have to worry about fuel prices already! It's still snowing here today, diesel fuel in my 93 W250 is 4.09/gal though

I hear ya... I spend way more on diesel fuel to go
racing than I do on the race car.... IT SUCKS

Ted I will GUESS thats what they put in mine... but
being that I sent my carb to QF I will only guess that
is what they put in mine plus I had them change 1 of
my bowls due to it looked bad... then it was flow tested
