A body with CalTracs/small tire pics - 03/17/13 03:09 PM

Post 'em if you gottem! Interested to see how A bodies sit with Cal Tracs mono's or stock leafs and small tires (small meaning like a 275/60 DR, or a 28 X 10-ish). I see Calvert sells their split mono's w/ a 1" drop. I don't like the SS spring look with the rear raised, so looking at the Calvert setup. For budgetary and baseline reasons, probably stick with the factory leafs for now.

275/60/15 hoosier drag radial under it in this pic. I have offset leafspring hangers with stock wheel wells. I got the +1 in ride height spring but ended up using 2 inch lowering blocks.

Cal-Tracs with mono-leafs (-1"). Non-tubbed with 3/4" offset hangers. Hoosier 28 x 11.5 QTP's. I had add a small spacer to the front leaf spring mounts to center the axle in the wheel well. Also had to roll the top of the wheel lip for clearance.

Scamp...You had asked how far I moved my leafs back. I ended up moving them 1/4". The tires were a little to close in the stock location. I've yet to see any signs of contact after moving.

The color is '85 Corvette white, it is a basecoat/clearcoat paint. Good luck with those big tires and the big block; once you have it set up it should really do some solid gold ground pounding.

This my other favorite, 72 Duster. Very nice!. 2" blocks seems like a lot to get it where it is, but every car is different. I like the way that tire sits in there. I had 1" blocks on my old Scamp w/ 2800# SS springs before the back half job. Sat nice w/ 29x12 Hoosiers (springs were moved in 3"). Real close on the front though.

Did you buy 5/8" spacers or make your own?
Posted By: jbmopars

Re: A body with CalTracs/small tire pics - 03/24/13 03:36 AM

Thanks Scamp, I bought the Calvert -1" to start with, and was not happy with the ride height. After talking to Calvert, he had nothing to offer me to lower the car. I can't believe these cars are that different but I've seen all different set ups to achieve a similar ride height to mine. I read through some old posts on here and found a few guys that said they had to run a 2" block and had no troubles at all, so I went that route. I made my own 5/8" spacer blocks to move the rear end back, and had to press the studs out and install longer bolts.

Nothing has been cut, the springs have been moved 3/4" in with the offset hangers and shackles. My wheels are 10" with 4" backspacing, but I have a custom width rearend. I knew I was buying a new Dana so I bought the wheels and tires and got them located where I wanted them then had the rearend built to that width. Thanks
