Excuse me for being ignorant but what are the extra holes in the oil pan rail for?

Ok, Ran into a little set back.I would just like to ask how many of you have had to deal with in a R3 or Ritter block. The aera im pointing to has not been michined to a large enough radius in order for the crank to clear. Or in my case will not even set down on the bearing surface. All input is welcome. Rick I think you may have all the answers I may need.

Looks like a 10 minute job with a carbide burr and then hit with a sanding roll. Good as new.
