scoop measuring question - 03/08/13 10:17 PM

OK guys I have a question about measuring for a cowl hood scoop.

No crap about cowl scoops guys, please.

Where do you measure from to get the proper ht? The front of the carb? back of the carb?

Measure from the lowest point Tony... get as much clearance
as you want from that point... I have a 4" on the
Rampage and I just clear a 4" filter and top
EDIT
On their measurement it will be the very rear to
get their dimension(mines is 4" at the back)

i got caught on this one too when i first bought my 6" cowl. when we measured in the carb area it was 4 1/2"!!! WTF!!! but after it sat on the hood & we sank a few liquid ambers, we noticed it was slighly sagged in the middle. so we pulled the sides in with some wide tape under the base & sat the cowl back on, hey 6 1/2" much better. in the Harwood website they measure from the end of the opening to a horizontal point below. since we bonded our cowl with this preload built in, pics of my junk running thru the traps show the cowl still holding its shape, unlike some cars that didn't do this showing a big saggy center section of cowl.

Rebel, I love the look of you car, it works VERY well!!!

Mike, I get what you are saying once I saw the pic.

My only question is when I measure at the back it is about 4" from the cowl to the top of the carb. yet when I measure from a flat surface in front of the carb I am at about 7". I am thinking because I have a 2" spacer on the M1 intake.

I want to run the 6" but am thinking 9" will work better.

Thoughts?
