moparts engine builder, help settle a bet - 02/16/13 05:09 PM

Ok folks.

I want you to be completely truthful on this build and see what some of the engine builders come up with for Hp numbers/ torque numbers.

No need to inflate or sand bag, just honest opinions.

Build 367 cubic inch engine
10:1 compression ration
340X heads
240ish .520 lift solid roller comp cam
holley street dominator intake
750 proform carb
1 5/8 headers. thru 2.5 exhaust.

I know this isn't an exact science, just give me guesses thanks,
Mikey

I'm thinking about 400/450.

Similar 340 with ede's and a victor 340 made 455

Stock x heads, probably 420ish hp on the high side and same TQ.

Are you wanting numbers for a engine dyno or a chassis dyno? If on a chasis dyno which trans and converter combination or is it a stick shift set up?

Re: moparts engine builder, help settle a bet - 02/16/13 07:32 PM

Is the heads stock or ported?
If stock I would guess 375-400 HP.
I know the Stock guy's with 340's make more power, but I don't know if the ARE Stock.
As long as they don't pour the heads for cc's I don't trust them
I built a 366 for a friend with a TIGHT budget(he is poor as he!!)
I've used std J heads with 2.02 intake valves and no porting, a Edelbrock RPM, Lunati voodo cam, and a Thermoquad.
Car is a original 62 4dr Dart with 8 3/4 3.23 and pushbutton 727 and Streetfighter converter.
Best et 13.02@104mph

Don't know the HP but we are happy as it's a NO money budget.

Mild porting and engine dyno.

425 hp.....same exact bullet....only 11:1...that I ran back in the mid 80's in a 72 Challenger 3000lb race weight 727 not enough converter 4.56 ran a best of 11.2 @ 117

Thats pretty much where mine run, having a little less compression and I would say 11.30's-11.40's with this one.

Not sure what mild porting is, but I'll guess 435HP?

Re: moparts engine builder, help settle a bet - 02/16/13 11:31 PM

That's close to a combo I ran several years ago; mine was a .030-over 340, bigger headers & open exhaust, Holley Strip Dominator intake, and it made 440HP and ran 11.40s in my Duster with a 4400-stall converter 904, 5.38s & 13x31 tire at about 3,000 lbs foot-braking.

407 HP.

400-410 hp. 420-430 tq.

With the exhaust on the dyno.. 385hp/410tq but it
will vary on which muffs.... this is a wild guess since
your leaving a LOT of info out of the equation

Re: moparts engine builder, help settle a bet - 02/17/13 01:00 AM

Stock 340X heads? 425HP, 430, (maybe 440) ft/lbs of torque. Ported: 460HP, 460-480 ft/lbs torque.
All depends on the machining, balancing, assembly, initial and final tuning of ALL components together. Not much cr, but I'm wondering if it's EFFECTIVE or static measured cr.

What fuel? With open chamber x heads and 10:1 compression...... Uhhhhmmmm 375-400.

Hey, you are supposed to guess with the info supplied. Thats why it's called a guess. Any more guesses after my guess based on additional info supplied by the OP DON'T COUNT!!!

400 tops with good heads

Re: moparts engine builder, help settle a bet - 02/17/13 03:12 AM

Very similar to my combo. 360 with stock cast crank, Scat I beams, Flat top SRP pistons, calculated 11.5:1 comp ratio, old school "purple shaft" .509 cam, "J" heads with 2.02 valves, untouched ports, and shaved .100 to get .045 quench. 3500 stall PTC converter, 4.30 gears. Car is heavy at 3500 lbs with me in it.

Runs 11.80 in good air, high 11.90s in the heat.

Didn't say what fuel, so I going with pump gas premium w/ octane booster to be sure. Fiddle with the cam intake and lobe center angles (degree cam), optimize ignition timing to the combo and make sure the EFFECTIVE cr IS 10 to 1, otherwise with the "advertised" cr level at 10 to 1, you are looking at 50-70hp less (maybe more!) than with EFFECTIVE cr.

I'm sure he is talking the static compression... not
the dynamic ...... JMO
