Preformer RPM with a valley plate

Preformer RPM with a valley plate - 02/09/13 04:17 PM

Stupid question I know because I could find this out on my own just by looking. But I'm currently a 7 hour drive away from my engine and wondered if anyone else had tried it.

I am wondering if anyone has used a valley plate with a Performer RPM intake on a 440 (and not the deal made by 440Source -- yes, I know it exists). The Performer RPM is so high up I was thinking it might clear. I also know I've seen my machinist mill the heat cross over section on an intake before (it has been so long ago I don't even remember the engine or intake) to get it to work with a valley plate. Since I run aluminum heads with no heat cross over I could probably do something like this.

Thoughts? Experiences?

as long as the bottom of the intake (heat cross over) is milled off I'd think any block off plate would work. FWIW I'm using the 440SOURCE plate and have no issues. WHy not just use a standard valley pan?

I just fired up the cut-off wheel and chopped that hump of extra weight off the bottom of the manifold No need to take it to the machine shop nobody will ever see it
Just cut it off

Good point.

On what ever it was that my machinist was working on he was able to mill it without actually getting into the cross over. So someone could still use it on an engine with a heat cross over. As I said, I don't recall what the engine was so it may have still had the heat cross over.

As for why not just use the valley pan, it is because I hate them. I could list reasons but I won't. People will tell me all the ways to avoid the problems. And at the end of the day I'll still hate them. So I'll save people the trouble of typing.
