440 Source CNC heads - 11/21/08 07:42 PM
Anybody using them? They look pretty sharp!

They're probably very similar to my old Eddy heads that ran 9's on a streetable combo, great deal.

The set my buddy got needed corrected all over the place... Im not gonna say the comments he got from you know who so he dont get bent out of shape about it.... but I would buy a worked used set of eddy's off here from an experienced member before going that route...

At this point I would not bother to listen to any thing wedgeOmatic has to say when it comes to 440source, He has posted in the all 440source threads about his valve cover problem many times over and over

There is one problem with the heads though. I went to order a set about a month ago and the only way they will sell them is complete with springs for a small cam. I want to run a hydraulic roller so the springs, stc would be useless! Why won't they sell them bare.... or has this changed
Quote:
you can buy just an inner spring from comp cams #974-16 making a double with enough tension for a flat tappet or hyd roller
Quote:No mention of getting 'em w/o springs & etc. on their web page; they don't list any heads (ported or not) bare or bare w/ valves.

Sorry for the hijack...
Carry on.

For as little as these heads cost complete, you could just throw the springs away and still be ahead of the game. It's encouraging to see good bargain heads for a Mope, like Ford and Chevy have falling out of the sky.

why all the drama.. I replaced the springs on my Edelbrocks, don't recall having to whine about it...
Quote:I have a set of the first non CNC batch, the springs on them had 140 lbs pressure on the seat and 340 lbs at 600 lift, coil bind at around .700, if I remeber correctly. so I would say they will work fine with that cam and even 1.6 rockers I would probally shim the springs up so they had about .080 from coil bind on all sixteen springs and replace the retainers and valve locks with some super sevens or ten degree lock and retainers that would fit that spring properly I haven't use them on a motor yet but I will shortly, maybe after having them done by Jeff if I can get a deal before this winterQuote:

Would you recommend doing that for a comp XS290S or will the stock Stealth springs handle that cam?

exactly
I wish these were available when I built my car!

We just put on a set this past week on a car that has .590 cam with 915 heads with a crossram. The car only made 2 passes with this combo and went 11.00 @120mph. Put the cnc heads by jeff on and went 10.47@127 at cc. in colombus this past wkend. Jake
