W9 headbolts - 01/03/13 03:15 PM

I'm in need for headbolts or studs for W9rp heads. Emailed ARP, got an answer: We do not have any for this configuration yet. What are you guys using?

For aluminium blocks? Does it matter, i have a iron block? Is there anything cheaper available, Bolts, that would work?

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/03/13 05:15 PM

Todd at Marsh Performance has them I've bought them from him, and were are a little better priced.
The differance in the studs for an aluminum block is the part that screws in the block is longer for more enguagement and have a bullet tip. You can cut some of the threads off and they will be fine.

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/03/13 05:37 PM

Talk to BondoBob @ Bob's Pro Fab.

He got my heads complete with studs. Not sure exactly where from but they were Excess Un-Used. They may still have some studs??

From what I was told the reason for the insane price is they are Inconel.

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/04/13 02:47 AM

I got mine for a conventional W-9 from Ryan J and they were not cheap.
Even compared to regular ARP stuff.......then I had to replace the eight point nuts with the smaller 12 point on the studs in between the valve springs.
But I'm not complaining.........that was the cheap part of the deal.

I just looked at the Summit link.
OUCH !!!
I think I was into them for around 350.00

Yeah I replace all of the nuts with 12 points...
and people think is cheap to build a W-9

Afraid not!!

If I could figure out how to post pictures here I'd post some of the set I have.

They may list them as Steel BUT they aren't like any steel studs I've ever seen. They look and feel more like Titanium. But was told by another source they are suppose to be inconel.

Then it is a matter of common sense: measure the length, and buy something that is made for other brands and could fit. When you have an iron block you do not need the super special weight saving high$$$ stuff for superlight weight race. If you can use 1/2" for the big studs all the way, then try what fits Fords. I know some of the W9 alublock studs (mains?) use 1/2" UNC in block and is phased down to 7/16" UNF, probably to save weight. This means special design and special price, that you should not need. If you can run 1/2" through the boltholes in the head, then try again! And check that there is room for a washer and 1/2" UNF 12-point nut. My

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/04/13 03:46 PM

Thanks everyone! I don't have the heads yet, and thought i'd get as much stuff ready as possible when i get them, but wasn't that easy! Lets see what happens when i start looking for headgaskets... Allready know intake gaskets have to be made... Headers i'm doing my self and gaskets to those too.

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/04/13 04:17 PM

I believe Cometic and SCE both make them in whatever bore size and thickness you need.

MP has both intake and exhaust gaskets(at least the
last time I bought a FEW sets)
EDIT
depending on bore size Felpo has head gaskets

I don't remember exactly what we did? but mine are ARP
"I think we used something for another application" but it was know where near 300.00 and yes we used 12 point nuts for all.

Re: W9 headbolts - 01/05/13 01:41 AM

SCE has intake and exhaust ( fiber ) gaskets available.
I think I have a set of .045 intake gaskets laying around that haven't been cut up , but mine required some trimming to match the port shape I wound up with.
I went with Cometic MLS for the head gasket.

Ooops....I just checked SCE's web site. No intake gaskets.
Here are MoPar #'s
